Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Do You Suppose...

...that the down vote storm is actually a Watson AI bot? It's pretty primitive AI technology but it could be trained on a lot of posts to decide good/bad. It never appears to up vote any post which would make sense with old AI (you don't want to trust it to endorse something just in case but it's always safe to down vote.) Obviously, it is not modern enough to be "conversational" (its strength is answering quiz show questions). It doesn't look like Watson bot ever posts anything. Which would again be consistent with a slightly archaic AI system with limited functionality.

That would explain why the down votes are regular and sometimes instantaneous. Most humans would tire of constantly monitoring the forum. But a Watson bot never needs to sleep. Also, it might even be able to be trained to raise an alarm if it thought a post was really negative.

I'm obviously speculating but the down vote storms are curious and the number of down votes often don't seem to be reasonable.

I doubt that it's a "Watson" bot because Watson was only good at quiz shows. Any bot can be programmed to look for words like "cr-p", "sucks", "loser", etc., and down vote the post.

R0b T wants us to come up with two new products every quarter. One product could be "Suppress Disinformation About Your Organization On Social Media Platforms" Looks like that one might be ready to go. Just one more to meet next Q target.

  • IBM will not invest enough in Watson compute to perform just for down voting with judgement on posts OP speculates.
  • It could be more of a simple task bot that's down voting.
  • One could speculate CIO Katherine's organization developed this simple bot, but they don't have good developers, especially after the recent RA.
  • For IBM, it's likely cheaper to employ staff at low cost countries to monitor the site and down vote. Those tasked may not fully understand what each post says due to language barrier thus non sentence down votes at times.
  • HR specifically TA was hit, so other parts of HR could also be contributing in down voting manually.

Brilliant idea and explains the out of proportion down votes to perfectly normal posts. I don't think this website gets as many live readers in a month as certain posts get down votes the day they go up. If this is correct or how stupid is that since the downloads do absolutely nothing to change the visibility of the post.

IBM HR trying to justify its existence. Irony is that IBM HR got whacked in this RA and many more coming.
