Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Your honest answer

I know that things on here should be taken with a grain of salt but I'm still curious. What do you dislike/like about the company or what has your personal experience been like? What would you say to someone who is thinking about applying or to past you?

Notaboomer, I wouldn’t trust her just because our CEO seems friendly. Senior management. Nay also can’t be trusted. Oil is good and everything is going well now. Wait till something major happens, true personalities come out.

I’ve been with Oxy looooong enough to know these people really well.

The current work from home situation. It should be flipped. We should work from home as the standard for the positions that can and produced a lot during the pandemic and then come into the office just a few times on an as needed basis. My productivity has dropped since being in the office because of the distractions by others and the extra time consuming mandatory in person training and meetings that use to be all online and I could work durring the waiting down time for those to begin and some times juggled doing two things at once when their were lulls in activity durring a meeting but can't now and I'm seriously worried about it. Working in an office is a problem for many positions.

the company was better before the anadarko acquisition. its not "bad" but not an enjoyable place to be.

unlike most on here, I actually love working here. CEO is friendly , upper management individuals are approachable in all areas of the company. There is a vision, All areas are making us money (GOM,Oxychem,EOR) . Salary is ok but bonuses seem generous if you get a decent rating. Work flexibility is def there (probably manager dependent) . We get extra retirement savings, our stock is back up. I mean what else can you really want if you were to jump ship to another company in Houston. Only reason to jump ship is if you are unhappy with your role/team or if you get a 30% raise some where else.

The company is just one big surprise after another. Sometimes the business decisions seem risky but most seem to work out. It is a wonderful Oxy world.

Not an OXY employee but am considering applying. Just wanting to know if it'd be a good fit. It's been hard finding real answers to what any company is actually like and what to expect.

This is and will always be a great company for risk takers. If you want the sure thing then this is not the company for you. Go for the gusto, roll them dice, and shoot for the moon.

@oldtimer how has it changed compared to before? Do you personally worry about the direction the company is headed?

Oxy used to be a fun place to work. Not anymore. If you haven't realize it, you are new or have been just for a couple of years and still got those honey moon feelings of being hired here.

As an AI language model, I don't have personal experiences or emotions, so I don't have likes or dislikes about any particular company. However, I can provide some general information and tips to consider when applying for a job.

If you're considering applying to a company, it's always a good idea to research the company thoroughly to understand its values, culture, and work environment. You can read about the company on their website, online reviews, and social media. This will give you an idea of what to expect from the company and whether you think you would be a good fit for their culture.

It's also important to review the job description and requirements to ensure that you have the necessary skills and experience for the position. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach out to the company's HR department or the hiring manager to get more information.

As for past me, I would remind myself to always be prepared for job interviews, ask thoughtful questions, and be confident in my skills and experience. I would also advise myself to research the company thoroughly to ensure it aligns with my values and career goals.
