Our manager seems very secretive and rumors about layoffs are circulating and I am honestly very worried.
These days I am most dedicated to sending resumes. People assure me that I should not worry so much because it is not that difficult to find a new job, but still I'm afraid that I will struggle to find something new if I get laid off.

You remind me of most Ford meetings actually. People like you sit there steaming mad about everything that is going on around you and then you eventually spout off a bunch of negativity and offer nothing of value.

If you were SIRP'd in April '22 you were golden. If you were SIRP'd in August '22 you were fine. If you get SIRP'd from now until the end of the year you are screwed. Jobs have been disappearing. I've heard multiple reports of people applying to jobs only to find out the job is no longer budgeted.
Here's the problem, you were warned!! Those of us in the know have been warning everyone at Ford to get out while you can. But you all just kept coasting.
I've got almost 30 years in. I'll be able to retire if my number gets called. Anyone with less time screwed the pooch by waiting so long. You have no one to blame but yourself.

@OP+1mf7gE5S The rumors of the "hot" job market are greatly exaggerated, but there are jobs, keep looking. It won't be that hard to do better than what you have now.
Well unfortunately I can’t tell people what it is like now, as I was SIRP’ed last April.
Signed up for Right Management in May, spring May, June, July, and August not doing much - I mean I did update resumes and took so training, but really did not apply to more than 30 to 40 jobs.
All my interviews came from people contacting me. Ended up taking a contract job with a major health care group (interviewed/hired in October- both interviews - actually hiring manager and then her boss - less than an hour each interview). Started in November 2022; just officially extended me another 6 months - told me at end of this year talk about FTE offer.
My experience was not to painful overall in reality. Part of the reason was I wasn’t in a hurry, as I had been planning for 5 years for the day I was let go, so I had 6 figures in savings not counting retirement - was not sweating not getting a regular paycheck. So I guess your mileage will vary; I heard it is tougher this year, but there also still seems to be jobs, I think a lot depends on your flexibility.
Doug was chosen because Ford has a history of making bad hires. He has been given too much authority to crash Model E.

Good post. However, I would argue that your logic is better applied to Ford leadership ranks. When you do this, then you will see why Ford BoD has brought in so many tech professionals from outside of Ford. This is the correct way to settle a company down with a new direction and execute. Take Doug Field for example, do you think he would have been chosen to lead Model e had he not dynamically moved successfully through several of the best tech companies?
@tna It will depend on your hiring companies experience with Ford employees.
As a rule when sifting thru resumes for IT people with long stretches in the same job at large companies known to carry a lot of dead weight, those resumes are shuffled to the bottom of the pile. For example if someone spent 20 years in IT administrating/installing some software product at Ford/Chrysler/Kmart that person goes to the bottom of the pile as you immediately know they have been a cog in an antiquated system and likely have no initiative or relevant skills. Same for DBAs, programmers etc. After awhile you can scratch and sniff resumes and detect the mold and rot.
So work on your resume to show that even though you were @ Ford, you weren’t part of the Ford rot.
the companies going ev cant afford all the employees they have because the only profit generated is from ice vehicles, and not ice from ford. Toyota, honda are the vehicles people want, these companies get it and havent been coursed by big bad woke gov.
It seems pretty surprising to me that a perspective employer would flat out refuse to interview you because of past work experience. But if it happens, I guess just roll with it and move on to the next one.
Most companies, and hiring managers / interviewers especially, will know that a ground level employee wasnt responsible for poor strategy and execution that came from the top executives. So they won't
I'd say be as honest as possible on your resume. Your experience will speak for itself.

Is putting Ford experience on you resume a positive or negative? I had one prospective employer flatly refuse me an interview citing the management dysfunction and recall performance at Ford. Hard to hide 12 years experience at Ford. Anyone else have the same experience?
Please don’t worry about loosing your job at Ford. It happened to me in 2019 and it was such a blessing in disguise. I didn’t realize how bad my management was until I started a new job 4 weeks after my layoff with an actual leadership team and a better company with a better teamwork and culture. Just want to reassure you there are great opportunities. I am SO THANKFUL Ford got rid of me and I got rid of Ford. :0)
