Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Santa Rosa Aortic

How many people from Santa Rosa Aortic have been laid off already. I lost the count. Some department managers asked everybody to go home. Does that mean the whole department will be let go?

I worked in corporate, sh, and crdm during my 12 yrs with mdt. Since 2005, I have always thought that MDT would close the Santa Rosa offices by 2025. Labor is too expensive. Santa Rosa employees are paid the most of any USA MDT region. More than northridge. Face it, no one wants to live in Santa Rosa. (I lived in Forestville as a teen and went to the now closed high school, El Molino.)
Look for MDT to transfer everything it can out of Santa Rosa asap.
All of my friends who worked for mdt in Santa Rosa, left in the last 5 yrs. You should too.

Any news from today’s SH&A meeting at Brickway?

SH is not in good shape at all. It’s been a disaster since even trying to absorb some of Aortic a few months ago. SH is really good at “faking it” and cutting corners to get numbers looking good for execs. If SH absorbs more of Aortic is going to go downhill fast.

How can SH sustain so many employees?
SH is not a high volume market like coronary or CRM plus they have great competitors like Edward and Abbott

Hard to believe Aortic will be fully gone.
Anyway, things are not looking good for that whole division with so many people

IBD and LSA were the only active projects other than some small sustaining efforts. Yes, Aortic is profitable with Endurant and Valiant Captivia, but the timeline for IBD was too far out to fit the plan. Aortic employees will support Mitral, Tricuspid, Congenital and other yet to be determined programs.

Official communications should be coming out soon from Carolyn. Hopefully this week, and from Russ and Nina next week.

I don’t know if SH is able to open that many positions, as SH is not in a good shape. Check on Abbott earning this morning, they also have an organic growth over10% in structural heart. One more Tavr competitor to share the market.

Dude what?! Can you provide any additional detail please?

Which programs have been shelved and what happens to day to day product management?

Any idea why aortic was specifically targeted for this type of action? From what I know, they are a high margin, healthy business.

Aortic programs have been cancelled. Yes, cancelled. Employees will be tasked with closing them out carefully and shelving them so that if they are revisited in a year or two or five, they will be well documented.

Aortic employees will be absorbed by SH, but they will be working on SH programs.

Aortic is gone for now.

Absorbed as in eliminating duplicate structures / teams for enabling functions (finance, clinical, quality, R&D, etc.)?

Absorbed like the whole organization or do you just mean R&D? Cause they've been talking about R&D synergies BS for a while now ever since they brought SH&A together.

I wouldn't exactly call that "getting absorbed" or do you have more details?

Tom came from structural heart so I am surprised to see him RIF'd.

With all the layoffs, lack of actual pipeline, backorders, and generally low morale I wonder what our market share is today. They might as well put this business out of its misery. It's no longer the shining star it once was.

The lease of the Brickway buildings end in 2025 so there is time for MDT.

Most of Extrusion has already been moved to Danvers and the rest will leave by end of 2023. MDT plans to release one of the buildings soon and the other will go before end of the lease.

Aortic, Packaging, Extrusion are the main functions remaining in both buildings.

At least 10 before been asked to go home for the day. Most likely to stay here long term per the rumors we keep hearing.
