Thread regarding Ford layoffs

D-Day 4/24?

That's the rumors I've been hearing. If not Monday than a day that week.

In August, you could see secret meetings on LL5+ calendars (but not on the calendars of the LL5s that also got let go).

I'm calendar surfing daily to see if there is anything suspicious. Sure enough a strange looking meeting popped up on the LL5s and LL4s calendar for late this afternoon.

Hmmm.

Farley is fake Pxssed, he is dragging it out as he knows he is out as soon as the mass firing is done.

I overheard a group of old white men at Rotunda on Friday talking about the week before the 4th of July holiday. Which just so happens to be the end of Q2.

Ah the delusions of Ford leadership
“Steal” Tesla and Apple “talent” and have them “replicate” designs at Ford. Putting ethics aside, when you scratch and sniff you understand why that “talent” was available for hire.

Reminds me of the Rivian ordeal where Ford thought it could bully and buy Rivian and take all their IP. That didn’t work out and so they took a stake in the company and lost 5.4 billion.
Ford has a history of thinking they can throw weight around and take what they can’t make. Volvo, Mazda, jaguar, Land Rover……. Ford should have the safest, most reliable, sporty and most luxurious vehicles on the planet if they actually could absorb and incorporate IP.

Any updates on these insider infos?

Farley said in an interview with Joanna Stern more cuts are coming.

Said he couldnt retrain people fast enough.

But he can go hire people from Tesla and Apple and talk about shippable software stacks.

Typo, should have read end of 2nd quarter.

The delay is due to optics around government subsidies to Ford. They need them to keep the company afloat. There would be a swift and unpleasant public backlash against politicians and Ford if things are not timed properly.

@9kpg They cant explain because their "insider information" comes from the their neighbors second cousin who used to work with the guy who does Farley's high colonic.

@9cog:

“End of first quarter”…. Was a month ago.

Can you explain?

Insider info.

This layoff is going to be huge. Going all the way up into the LL2 ranks. (Though most of them will just announce retirements.) LL3s and LL4s are not even safe this time!

HR knows that layoffs in the 10k range will really really overload Alight and NESC. They are working with partners on making sure there is sufficient bandwidth. Not to mention the management lease turnins that will overload the lease garage.

So they are still working on the plan. The plan is by end of 1st quarter. They want to try not to pay out too much in bonuses next spring to SIRP'd folks. Everyone agrees that August was too late last year.

So that's why the delays. Farley wanted this done but luckily others have held their ground that they are not ready yet from a systems and support logistics standpoint.

Stay tuned.....

The least Farley could have done would be to say that he read this site and no terminations are happening this week. But he didn’t.

Not to defend the OP, but there is one more day left in the week and he did say (or one day this week). I could see Ford going to Friday firings since more people are coming into the office now.

No offense, but if you have time to "surf" management's calendars, you probably should work on updating your resume.

It’s unsettling as you know the reckoning is coming, yet “leadership” is wasting money like drunken sailors. Instead of trimming truly unneeded resources, they all continually protect and expand their empires. The most senior preen like peacocks and spout nonsense visions and predictions that any school boy can see thru. It’s the adults who live inside the Ford sunshine bubble that don’t want to see it is all unicorn farts.

Farley's town halls are a snooze fest. I miss Hackett's because they were like watching Cosmo Kramer trying to explain relativity.

I know we are in butcher block waiting for the axe, but I don't think we are getting chopped next week. I found out we have a TH on April 26th, so I believe we'll be fine for one more week.

April is National Month of Hope, which is all about celebrating the power of hope — the belief that things will work out, especially when it seems otherwise. God Bless.

After 23 years in PD, I always smile when the fortunetellers look into their crystal ba--s and predict the day of the axe. I do not know the day each year, but I can tell you as sure as the season changing, Ford senior leaders will be laying off a lot more people in high-cost countries (US, EUR) this year as they send our jobs to low-cost countries. All of us need to understand in senior leaders’ eyes we are an unwanted, high-cost burden to their profits (bonuses) and need to be eliminated as soon as possible. My plan is to have six months’ worth of bills in a money market, learn new skills to make it easer to find a job and quietly fight against every effort to send my departments jobs to Mexico. I am not a quiet quitter. I do my job very well to make it hard to outsource. I am the quiet resistance to outsourcing.

Shades of last year; the first cuts of 2022 made the last week of April - likely so they could tell the world they had cost savings coming up in Q2.

I remember it well, as it happened to me. Had a 10/15 minute meeting pop on my calendar on Tuesday for the next day from my LL4, and man I had hardly spoken to in almost two years. Pinged my LL6 and asked her about it, she knew nothing about it - but said not to worry we had plenty of work to do. I still felt dread, anyway. Maybe because about three days before the meeting broke I suddenly could email certain things nor print anything out. I had heard of this before, so I prepared for the worst,

Wed. roils around, sure enough yup thanks you for all your years of service but you job is no longer needed. Friday 4/28 is your last day - it was the last workday of April 2022 ( 4/29 and 4/30 were weekend days) . Sure seems like that is how it is going down.

Best of luck if & when the boogie man strikes. Just remember it’s not the end of the world. I got another job within 6 months and then started my own consulting firm, so I nos also have a client as a second job - I make twice as much as I did at Ford working the same 40 hours a week.

It’s got to happen before May 2 earnings release. Farley needs to be able to show Wall Street that he’s done something to achieve some cost savings. And if it isn’t $2 Billion worth of cuts, analysts and investors will not be impressed.

Don't forget - Farley said at the of last year that we have 25% more people than necessary. He didn't pull this number of out of the air without any reason. We're now past 1st quarter and, so far, nothing.

@xpt because there are a couple of people on this board who love to spread layoff rumors that are hardly ever accurate (F150 guy). All it does is get people even more upset.

End of April makes sense, as it streamlines the consolation message for those remaining “don’t worry , everything’s great, coast is clear” with the global town hall message and 1st quarter financial results “ don’t worry everything is fine, quality, product lineup, new battery plants, tax breaks, lithium supplies, supply chain, chips….etc”….
