Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Prayers for all

Like many of you, I have been checking back here more than I care to admit. I personally have not been impacted (yet), but I feel for all those that have been as well as the rest of us sitting on the edge of our seats.

This is a great place to vent, as we all have some strong feelings right now and it will hopefully save our coworkers and families from taking the brunt of the frustration. Please remember that you always have to look out for yourself first, and nothing sends a better message than "voting with your feet". I don't know what I will do yet, but I do believe it's a long shot that I will stay here for all of the last 30 years of my career unless something drastically changes. Don't let our leadership off the hook, ask the hard questions in all staff/all hands/etc meetings (respectfully but directly).

In case our most senior leaders are reading this, these are some of my big concerns:

  1. Changing is not winning in itself unless you actually improve, and I think many are questioning how all these (what seem to be endless) changes are truly moving the needle.
  2. Bump your merit to 3% instead of 2%. It's a slap in the face to those that work hard. I've never had 2% prior to coming here.
  3. Executive leadership needs to take ownership. I don't want to hear anymore about macroeconomic factors. You are paid to deliver, and we haven't been. Our competitors have been wiping the floor with us. You should honestly be taking a pay cut to show you're accountable for all results, but start with putting an end to your massive raises.
  4. Treat Medtronic funds as your own. We love acquisitions, but are they all paying off?

As I lay in bed, I pray for all of you. For those impacted, that your friends, family, and coworkers would support you on your next journey and it would come in a timely fashion. For those still here, that you would think long and hard on what your next steps are. For everyone to be able to take a deep breathe and remember that it is a job. Most of this is out of our control and your sleep will benefit you more than staying awake to worry.

Goodnight,

MDT Guy That Cares
