Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I'm failing where I shouldn't be

It's just tough lately because I feel like I don't have any mental space left to focus on going for interviews. It's overwhelming. I'm constantly juggling so many things in my life, and finding the time and energy to prepare for interviews is getting harder and harder. I want to get a head start and be early in applying for jobs, but it's just not working out for me.

There is a process for this

Is it the same process that got Joshua Burgin hired?

Another pile of BS that whole scene.

There is a process for this. Why are you not following it? Maybe leadership doesn't think your team or open reqs are important enough to skip the step.

Nice accusation there buddy boy! Yes, my req was total shït, which is why we hired a total shít person to make a total shít product that is so not important. I told the URM that this job was only on offer to them because it is an unimportant job.

Not following it because my manager is not following it. So now I need to go report my manager for some stupid hiring process issue ? Yea, right. VPs are compensated based on URM metrics, so the incentives are there.

Man, grow up for Fs sake. This is a problem and it is happening en masse at VMware based on my experience.

I had no problems like described here. We had no URM candidates and were still able to successfully make an offer. It did require me to write a short paragraph to our department VP explaining why the position was important and needed to be filled ASAP. Approved within 24 hours, offer given same week.

I’m not sure we are allowed to have a conversation here unless we know that all participants in it exactly match the overall ratio of races in the United States.

As per the article below

You are recommended to include them in the panel of interviewers

Not true. You are required. And if there isn’t anyone to interview from that category, the process is halted.

Back to my reality, the one where Betsy and Co. have instituted policies that don’t achieve their objectives and instead make the situation worse. Go team!!!! Great job.

I’m going back to focusing on the main thing now, ttyl.

Main thing…. Main thing…. Squirrel! Main thing… main thing…

I had a similar experience. Zero URM candidates applied, but I had an extremely qualified white male candidate. Delayed his hiring for several months, so that we could meet the requirement and find URM candidates to interview. We searched hard and long on Linkedin, convinced a few under experienced and unqualified URM's to apply, all so we could waste these good peoples time, and dash their hopes for nothing. Bravo, HR and Betsy! At least we can virtue signal now.

"I don't know in which planet you people saying you had to hire URM or Female are from. This is against the law."

You are clearly from the planet Denial.

I can vouch for the situation laid out below. I had an open req, zero URM candidates applied for it. I had a white male who was qualified and then some, and was referred by several people in the group. I was told by my leader to "keep looking".

When you tie a financial incentive, like a bonus percentage, to having your group reflect a certain percentage of URM candidates, you create this kind of behavior.

Does that count as discrimination to you smart a-s?

A lot of whining little babies. Oh no! We have 4% of URM and 15% of Women in the Workforce and ONLY 71% are white males when we used to be 90%! NOOOOOO.

Do you think the new hire was unable to do the job because they were an URM?

The mandate told to me was to explicitly hire an URM. That is perverse.

No URM for the position was found and the open req expired. We passed up non URM candidates who were qualified. The req was opened again, we found someone. Performance is ok, nothing special. It took almost a year to fill the position.

I guess you are ok with that being the “socially responsible” way to run a business, I’m not.

Betsy and HR's policies incentivize and encourage discrimination against non-DEI candidates.

Excuse me, "non-DEI candidates?" Just say it. Betsy and VMware HR and racists that discriminate against Whites.

I’ve been an hiring manager a few times and the last time I was specifically told that we are hiring an underrepresented minority for the role - full stop.

"I was specifically told that we are hiring an underrepresented minority for the role - full stop"

I've had this experience here at VMware as well. Betsy and HR's policies incentivize and encourage discrimination against non-DEI candidates. No way around it. They have changed the hiring culture of the company to place race and se-ual preference, over being qualified. This is not to say there are not DEI candidates that are extremely qualified; there are! The problem is there aren't very many, and every top company is fighting for and snatching them up in their quest to virtue signal so they don't get sued. So you wind up with an open req, and no DEI candidates but lots of non-DEI candidates, and you are told to delay hiring. That is textbook discrimination on the basis of race and s-x!

entitled and blaming others for your failures

Man, do you even hear how you sound?

I’ve been an hiring manager a few times and the last time I was specifically told that we are hiring an underrepresented minority for the role - full stop.

Hard for you to remove your emotions from it but retorting “your are entitled” and “blaming others for your failures” is just so far from any reality. Shall I play the I’m rubber you are glue children’s game and say - you are a failure, so go F yourself.

Sad, simply sad.

"I'm a highly experienced and qualified white male, and I get very few callbacks. Thinking about getting an S change, and changing my name to Maria"

You are highly qualified accordingly to yourself. Changing your name may get you an interview where you will tank because you cannot stop being what you are: entitled and blaming others for your failures.

A little K therapy goes a long way. Got to reset the mind before you get tied in knots. You'd be surprised how popular it is in tech.

The more interviews you go for, the more confident you will get. I find the best interviews I had were when I couldn't give a sh-t whether to get the job or not. Not saying I got co--y ... but certainly more confident in asking questions I may have been to shy to ask before. Just stick with it - muscle memory will kick in eventually.
