Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Paid well or not?

One of the few things I have no complaints about here is the pay. That's the only reason I'm still here and I'm a little surprised by those who say they are underpaid.

Dear @6kpi+1mZIqg9s - I'm "sure" you're an exceptional employee who could easily find another job that pays you better than Oxy and provides the benefits you had at APC. I recommend you go there.

In my department, a benchmarking study showed the upper half were paid better than market while the lower half were not. It’s almost a straight line correlation where the higher up you were the more above-market your comp was (and vice versa for those on the lower half)

There must be other places you can go where your bonus will be 25% higher and your LTI won’t be where it was 10 years ago. You should quit and go there, so you won’t be underpaid and bitter, and you can enjoy your work. Or you can be an underpaid, bitter coward and stay at Oxy.

I’m not underpaid but I’ve taken a huge total compensation but since Oxy acquired APC.

My bonus target is 25% lower and my LTI grants are on par with what I got 10 years ago. And I had an awesome pension that Oxy screwed up too. So I’m not underpaid, just bitter and missing when I loved my work.

@4bbi+1mZIqg9s I think the pay is good from what I've seen

I say anyone who thinks they aren’t compensated for the work they THINK they do…should start interviewing elsewhere.

Go out and get what’s yours! Why stay in misery?

Those expecting large raises should go back and review what the raises were like during lower oil prices and low inflation. They were very skimpy. Please remember that your inflation adjusted raise is much less than your actual raise.

Below average pay here. But its a case by case basis with salary. The goal of HR is to stay about average so you will get people that are doing above average and over that unfortunately are below average. The benefits are what make it hard to leave. Not the pay as much.

This is my first job so I feel my pay hasn't really grown as much as I'd hope. Especially with what happened during COVID. High ratings definitely help the bonus payouts to help subsidize but I can't help but wish for a higher base or wish this was my second job. The company, benefits and people definitely help keep me.

Paid well. WLB great. Vacation too. It is just the lack of variety in assignments

Make sure you take vacations and enjoy yourself. You may die before you ever retire and will miss the best things in life along the way.

Same here. I’m also digging the 3 days per week in the office with 2 WFH, 9/80 on top of that and so much PTO that I can’t really take it all each year. Will have a fat PTO payout when I retire someday.

I agree. My pay is excellent and the benefits for retirement and medical are great too. No complaints about those.
