GF wastes so much money on projects like IT project Phoenix and development project Falcon, millions get put into these projects and nothing ever comes out for a return. Then the sponsoring execs like Reeder leave and the project gets cancelled, back to the drawing board with a new project that again wastes millions of dollars, the cycle continues to repeat!! GF should just license all techs, transfer them into the various fabs, do no development and accept being a bottom feeder foundry, tier 4 or 5 since they aren't willing to invest in the talent and overall development to do things the right way to be successful. Between wasting money on these projects like Phoenix and Falcon and not willing to invest in enough skilled resources the future looks very bleak for GF!!!

I absolutely agree with the author of this post (@3xdt+1mOy8hgV), but judging by the downvotes, I think there are also those who disagree, but they have not given reasons why they disagree. Just curious.

Project Phoenix is just a project for job security those to sustain another 3-5 years. The end result is going to be business continuity for the vendors as we ended up with no in-house capability.
I am not sure if anyone is not concerned with GF state. Low loading. No margin. No major technical edge.. only darkness everywhere. Looking for job before coming layoff.
The only reason it would get downvoted is because sometimes the truth hurts. GF is not an R&D company, even the CEO refers to us as a "wafer mfg company". Then the focus should be on buying techs from other companies, working on optimizing tech transfers and working on optimizing yields and profits through improved yields. With much of the development being outsourced to low-cost geos GF will have zero innovation so why not just buy and license technologies instead of failing on technologies and producing non-competitive PDKs!!!!!
