Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I report to a VP and she has become very toxic

I have been reading many of the comments here about those that are VP or higher getting 1 year salary and all of their RSUs vested. I wonder how this is affecting performance, morale, management approach.

My manager who is a VP convinced me to join VMware prior to the announcement of the acquisition, otherwise I would never have taken it. In these two years, it has changed from bi-weekly one to ones, and her singing my praises, to her talking to me once every 2-3 months at best. Suddenly in the past 6 months she became very critical of me, and her tone has become very toxic. She ignores my emails and Teams messages, and actually seems to have no time for me at all.

Joining VMware was the biggest mistake I've made. It is my third employer and I really thought I was going places. I was with my previous employer for 6 years. My customers are telling me they don't want this Broadcom acquisition, and they are moving away from VMware entirely. I don't blame them at all. If I were them I'd be moving to Red Hat, AWS, and Microsoft too.

The thing that really bothers me is how fake all these so called executives are. She still posts on social media all the time about how awesome her team is and she hits like on every single one of Broadcom's posts. What is now very transparent is she only praises and posts about those above her. It makes me sick.

Senior management at VMware are only focused on one thing at the moment. That is their payout from the acquisition. They are all managing upwards and are saying to right things publicly but have no interest in supporting their employees.

Sorry 1 year’s salary and all RSU’s cashed out for vp’s, do you have any evidence to support that statement ?

I agree with this post. I see the same in leadership. Its like the Dell/EMC playbook. I'm hoping they all get replaced with the acquisition.

Taken from the Dell/EMC playbook on how to treat your employees, what a bunch of loosers

That how you play the VP/C-suite carrer game. Kiss your boss’s äss and only speak to your underlings when absolutely necessary. Who wants to hear about work problems and get swept up into actually doing something when you can be figuring out how to play golf with another SVP.

Take the time to retrain and join a small company where there isn’t so much corporate Darwinism. Big companies are sh-t shows, all of them.

I agree with OP. Coast, and plan your next vacation to keep your head in a good place. Don't take anything personally

"have no time for me at all"
Isn't this actually a good thing? So you can coast and do nothing but cozily collect pay check until Octane fires u with accelerated vesting and severance.

I wish my manager stop bugging me so I can do nothing.

Yeah, pretty typical of VMWare higher-ups. So glad I left many years ago. VMWare is easily the worst and most toxic place I've worked at.
