Thread regarding VMware layoffs

RTO upon acquisition

A lot of folks in my org have relocated to 50+ miles away from VMware or Broadcom offices since the pandemic, and if the acquisition goes through how do people think Hock is going to deal with RTO? At least in my product, there’s no way most people could come to an office ever unless they moved. Would they target people that way for layoffs, be amenable to WFH because so many people at VMware are nowhere near offices, or give ultimatums to move closer?

They are exceptions, but they do exist.

Being remote will make it so much easier for BC to let you go, infact I think the first people to go will be remote.

I know people who work for Broadcom and who WFH full time with the approval of their managers. They are exceptions, but they do exist.

No one is critical in Hock’s world. One policy, one world, one giant àsshole.

Bye bye VMware. Hock can go suck it, not like he cares cares. F him. I can’t wait to hear about all the security flaws that won’t get fixed in the news after the takeover.

This idea of 50+ miles is laughable. No one has ever said that was the policy.

You will be required to come in. And when you tell your boss you live too far away, they'll shrug or say ok, but it won't be OK.

10 miles or 60, you will be required to come into the office. And if you don't they will use increasingly strong methods of making you do so, up to termination.

Many people will quit of their own volition, and that's fine with Octane. Many people will quit after a few months of increasing pressure, or be fired. Octane is fine with that too.

Broadcom requires to be in the office. Hock will most likely use this as a tool to lay off people or force them into office. Makes his job easier.
