Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Very disappointed by Morgan Stanley...

Disappointing that Morgan Stanley is ruining ETRADE. The MS culture of silo'd teams with a singular focus versus ETRADE teams with agile mindsets is starting to affect what can be accomplished. MS let go of some extremely dependable, top-notch professionals yesterday, which brings into question their decision making. Morgan Stanley wants to cut costs, so they target people, instead of holding people accountable for the builds and contracts that we have. We'll overspend on garbage tech solutions rather than focusing on people and their development. Don't get me started on the diversity and inclusion that they tout as a core value, it's all lip service...

Top notch engineer/manager was let go last minute to meet layoff quota. 15+ years of hard work and enormous accomplishment is completely overlooked by management. Now there is big gap to fill. It is a sad and upsetting day for anyone with conscience. Big loss to the firm. MS has destroyed Etrade's engineering culture, talents, morale. Many teams are stripped to bare minimum to survival mode. The ones staying may not be the luck y ones. Stay tune.

Maybe just a chance for management to clean the house and get rid of the people they do not like. You can not feel how the boss will be relieved? Two days before the layoff, I could sense the euphoria in my boss's voice, mood, spirit, as if he landed a big fortune or got lifted to heaven by lord. He could not even hide it. He couldn't wait. At that time, I knew he got his wish fulfilled. So think from both sides. The layoff decision is almost always made/engineered by your direct manager. Usually his manager will honor his wishes. It has been a burden on his part also for some time. Do not you think he is super happy as if he hit a jackpot when he finally rid of the people he was engineering to get rid of? Bear the truth, folks.

i dont understand the logic of keeping the contractors when they r targeting FTE. the purpose her is saving money right? we have some contractors in the team who were unaffected during dec and this weeks layoff but 3 of the FTE were laid off. what sort of d**** logic is that?

To save your sanity, give yourself a deadline. Be prepared that any day can be your last day or hour with a mad house. Some people were working to the last minute before they got that layoff call. How ironic. So set a hard boundary between work and your personal time. Study 45 minutes a day and get another position. Once you are out, you will feel so relieved. To be laid off is not a bad thing at all if you have the skills. Living with madness will ruin your confidence, skillsets and self worth. But that is what some people wanted for you, be warned. Take care of yourself.

Some managers' insecurities led them to tear down the talent, walk out the bright ones and keep the rather obviously stupid ones instead.
