Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Thrown under the bus by trusted colleague

I’m gutted I didn’t see this coming.

I always had an instinct not to trust this fellow expat but years of working alongside this narc really clouded my judgment.

I have resigned as I cannot see a future here anymore. Living here has made me lose faith in humanity. I hope I can recover. I feel so sad as this really is a great company. But the people put in management positions are incompetent and corrupt. If you are a good person then you will be eaten by these people. Don’t trust anyone.

There are indeed many expats who bi--h all day about Aramco but then roll over like puppies when they talk to local supervisors many years their junior. Spineless subservients.

The previous post giving the example of the expat talking negatively about the company. These are the ones to watch and STAY AWAY from. I have seen it many times. They are mischievous - actively searching for the next big opportunity to please management whilst sacrificing those around them.

Also, it is the Saudi culture to set spies amongst the employees. But the biggest shocker is the spies will fabricate and whisper false accusations into the managers ears. Then the manager will add this fabricated BS to the employees file - the victim will never know what false information has been recorded against them. And will never be allowed access to this file. Dangerous place indeed.

Well done for naming and shaming. I would like to see this extended to Saudis but I guess there’s not enough space here.

During my time at Aramco the expats were mostly in deep insecurity. They had their calculations for eventual exit but would typically say things like “well if I had to leave now… blah blah explanation”. In other words they all were thinking about the possibility of being let go and in fear of it. What a sh-t and pathetic way to live. Being in fear of having to leave one of the rosy countries on the planet.

Name and shame this pos expat. I will start. R Robles, HR in D&WO. Never trust what he says and never share anything personnel or professional. E Devlin in HR (who is thankfully no longer with Aramco)......both are terrible and unhappy individuals.

Thank you for your replies. Too late to retract. I did try to speak with management but he couldn’t wait to get me out the door (think nepotism plans here) and the narc has been laying the foundations whilst I was on vacation. Felt very unsafe and excluded since my return.

I would urge anyone who appreciates good sound colleagues/teams and values their career to think twice before joining and take the messages in this forum seriously. It is just money. And the expats remaining are hungry. They wave their American passports but practice their third world dirty politics. In the end they are seen as the golden goose so they get away with it. Living here has been a real eye opener into human behaviour. I was always fortunate to work with good people in my life until I came here.

Life is too short. It was a fight or flight response but think years of dealing with this backstabbing and living on the edge - I have felt my arteries tighten and it’s given me a scare. It is not worth to compromise your health (and ultimately life). Back to the real world. I won’t be checking this forum now - thank you to all who replied.

Gone were the years when expats were truly happy, at ease and fairly content. There was some sort of camaraderie, an understanding that they have a common bond. Now, most expats are on the edge of their seats. The "great" company is promoting an atmosphere pitting expats against each other, as the threat of getting the ax is always at the back of their minds. It's the survivor show, outwit, outplay and outlast. That's the name of the game now. If you don't have the stomach for it or skin not thick enough, then it's too bad. You either get booted out or you quit. I just hope you have stashed enough to make joining the circus all worthwhile, or you have a career to go back to. If you don't, then sorry, you just made an emotional decision on a whim. Retract it if you can. Good luck!

Since the pandemic the hired expats are the worst treacherous cheap p.o.s. Your fault for trusting those useless drunks> try trusting young nationals you be better off dointhat

As for resigning I wouldn't do it because of a particular id--t (don't let the ba----ds...) You can retract your resignation anytime and I suggest you do that. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Wait till year end let your emotions rebalance

Last, this is NOT a great company. You either too naive or plain mo--n to believe that_ Go work in a good, honest, motivated environment -and culture- & then compare.

so get some more months of poison for your mind and lungs, then f off with some cash, rinse your damaged spirit afterwards- if you really smart you will learn something from this piece of he-l

Before I left, I noticed that Departments at Aramco seemed to be hiring from a variety of different nationalities by design. I got the feeling that they didn't want the people who were working together to have too much in common. There used to be a big homogenous groups like the Mormons, but those were being systematically diminished. The environment at Aramco became increasingly political and duplicitous, which is one of the reasons that I moved back to the West.

Sad to hear. Saudis are not to be trusted, but you should be able to trust other expats. Expats should really stick together in such an unfriendly environment like Aramco.
