Interviewed in 2018 for a position up at the center. Went well. Wrapped up and asked about timing for followups. I sh*t you not, the interviewer looked at me and said “Well, I’ll be honest. You’re clearly a male and you’re clearly white. It’s going to take longer for you”.
Wow. OK. Appreciate the honesty I guess. Didn’t get the job, moved on and took a different job at another company. Ended up getting hired at 3M for a different role a few years later.
Immediately became clear that their priorities encompassed a lot of areas I wouldn’t have thought relevant for a for-profit company.
That’s OK. My boss was one of the best I’ve ever had, coworkers were incredible. And everytime I was in a meeting with the person who had interviewed me in 2018 I got a chuckle out of it. It was pretty clear from day one how dysfunctional 3M was from a leadership standpoint.
Position eliminated in one of the rounds. But when you see it coming a mile away you just kind of move through it. Much happier where I’m at now.
