Houston-based Baker Hughes Co. (NYSE: BKR) notified Florida officials late last week it would be closing its Jacksonville plant and conducting a "mass layoff."

Baker Hughes, one of the world's largest oil field services companies, said it will be conducting the layoffs at its manufacturing facility located at 12970 Normandy Blvd. The company said it would be laying off about 183 of its 228 employees, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice released May 23.

The facility, which operates as a subdivision of Baker Hughes under the name of Industrial Valves, Pumps, and Gears, will begin its "plant closing" in January and is expected to continue through December 2024. The layoffs are expected to be permanent, the notice stated.
