Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Thread for severance details

(1) On the severance document, they listed some people as "Population Not Selected for Severance Benefits Offered". The list includes both FTE and Temp, only titles and ages, no names. Not sure whether it's fictional (how dare they do it?). Even it's true, is the purpose of showing me the list "You'd better feel lucky and just go with whatever you get."?

(2) Be it 2 or 3 wks for each year of service, there is a cap for long-term employee. MS doesn't award loyalty. Loyalty is a sign of weakness because HR believes you are not able to find a better job, hence staying in MS for so long.

(3) It's NY State law to mandate 3-month notice. Everyone in NY get it.

Severance is always negotiable. Ask for 20% more, plus a percentage of your bonus (if applicable), plus the firm's contribution to your health care of payments until December as part of COBRA.

Think the severance is 2 wks for Wealth and 3 for other areas.

regarding "Population Not Selected for Severance Benefits Offered", i believe its for age discrimination. it shows ages of those kept and those cut so you can see if they broke the law. In wealth, seems that average age of someone is about 7 year older than average age. seems like age discrimination their but not sure what the threshold is until speaking to attorney.

Hi the number of years ago, my sister was laid off at Deutsche bank. She was there close to 30 years. We try to negotiate a better severance by going to a lawyer, but they wouldn’t budge. I really can’t say if you should go to a lawyer or not as I don’t know what their severance package is at Morgan Stanley, if they have it in the global policy handbook and how ironclad it is. if you can get a free consultation and show them the severance agreement and your handbook, they can give you a better idea Look at your severance agreement and it will state when you have to sign and return it by. I think it’s usually 21 days. Just make sure you sign it before the expiration date. I know some people at Deutsch bank who signed the agreement the same day they were laid off and they couldn’t get unemployment because their severance check came in before 30 days. Hope this helps.

How late you can hold off signing the severance agreement? Do you hire an attorney to help your negotiate a better deal?

To be more specific, this is a New York law regarding holding off on signing the severance agreement, which in turn, would hold off your severance check, try to sign in at the absolute last minute

Also, it’s very important to take your time before signing the severance agreement with Morgan Stanley, gives you your severance under a month after being laid off I don’t think you are eligible for unemployment until the following year as they count that severance as income. This is a relatively new law. Look it up for more information.

Which division already got the "severance document"?
Would you mind sharing which roles and how many were affected?
