Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

sorry for all the folks who were laid off, but here's your replacement announcement

"Exciting News! Medtronic is investing an additional approximately INR 3000 cr (more than$350M) to expand the Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Center (MEIC) in Hyderabad, India. This move demonstrates Medtronic's commitment to India and Govt. of Telangana's strong partnership to support our journey of transforming healthcare in India through meaningful innovations.

The investment is part of Medtronic’s overall global R&D-led innovation and growth strategy. With this additional investment, Medtronic aims to further boost its R&D capabilities in India. Over the next five years, the center is anticipated to grow from 800+ employees to close to 1500.

We're excited about the growth of the healthcare technology sector in India, and we're proud to be a part of it."

Man what a slap in the face to all the US-based folks who were affected by layoffs.

This was a Covidien R&D center doing most of the work for SI and PMR OUs. Legacy Medtronic had another center doing R&D work only for renal care which later on became a separate company.

This is fantastic if you are an executive. Just think about all the money saved and it going towards your bonus.

It is all about the money $$. I wonder if India has all the beauracy that US MDT faces when innovating from within. We are not one MDT OU's and GOSC's have different goals and MDT does not invest in infrastructure in US and will ki-l NV just like Mini Med. Complete turnover in 5 years no prodcuts for 10

The slap in the face are all of the talent acquisition teams STILL keeping their jobs, after multiple layoff rounds.

The slap in the face are all of the nameless, faceless HR teams hiding behind "raise a HR ticket" STILL keeping their jobs, after multiple layoff rounds.

Why? If the US have enough hard working engineers, Medtronic wouldn't have to go through the H1B process. There are too many lazy engineers.

Wow kiss goodbye to innovation and quality. India has some amazing minds for sure but they're in India for a reason. Anyone actually brilliant would have already been in the US via education, employment or some other means, instead of working at Medtronic India.

This is basically Cognizant, Tata, Deloitte, etc where all these companies sign massive contracts with Medtronic for 100s of millions, only to outsource the work out to India for pennies on the dollar.

Now Medtronic has said, no way they get to sc--w me over...I'll sc--w myself over first.

Bravo Geoff, bravo. ENGINEERING THE EXTRAORDINARY for sure

I remember being part of covidien r&d and thinking they'd never move r&d considering all the labs, animals etc. And then they started moving CAD jobs followed by DQE.
