Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

I left GF for respect and mental peace

Wanted to share my story. I left GF recently after surviving multiple layoffs. I witnessed downfall of GF from Global payer with vision to be one of top foundries to third grade struggling local foundry with no vision, no roadmap and no edge. I witnessed GF struggling to build its own culture merely to reduce to culture of toxicity, racism and favoritism. I witnessed GF struggling to hold good pool of talents from Chartered, AMD, IBM, Samsung and other top foundries to finally left with mediocre bunch of junk, rejected and incompetent individuals sitting at management positions as no one was left there. I witnessed GF making effort to catch up top foundries and finally reducing to no effort at all.. just pretending to be a player under show off leadership that pretends that all is ok. I witnessed GF with great leaders reduced to GF with failed leaders who stayed in GF as they could not find job anywhere else.

I, also, stayed at a Holiday Inn last night…

Sure, Jan.

I left GF for same reason. It is painful to report in a management structure with dubious characters and no technology know how. I started feeling ashamed, the more I tried to stay in GF. Get out of the he-l if you can. GF toxic and dark place is not a place to build career.

Same here. I left GF last year for precisely same reasons and that has been the best decision of my career. GF is the worst company I ever worked for

Nothing but cheap-seats left at GF Malta, now.

I was laid off in the last round and have since been re-employed. Much happier and peaceful now. Sure, there are some coworkers who complain at the new job, but nowhere near the level of discontent I witnessed at GF. I think a lot of folks are complacent when it comes to staying at GF. After all, it la a decent check with benefits. But at the end of the day it’s not a healthy work environment.

Unfortunately, the leadership which remains at GF at this point is like the third string team on a basketball team of 12-15 players total, if the good ones stayed they would still be sitting on the bench getting water for the starters and not getting any playing time. Now you are left with a third string team who is not competitive with other leaders in industry and are falling behind the competition, basically getting their as--s kicked by competition!!

This is exactly my experience as well. The only good talent left has some misguided loyalty (likely from indoctrination from decades of propaganda from capitalist idealists that have been hammering loyalty to an employer will have major long term benefits) or truly can’t afford to leave or have been afforded no prospects to do so. I’m infinitely happier and less stressed now that I’m out of that toxic environment, even if I have to retrain my brain to recognize what respect looks like.
