In-office attendance matters - WFH get let go

I heard that many managers let go those who don't go to office on the same days as they do. If the manager goes to office on Mon, Wed, Thu, and the employee goes on Mon, Tue, Fri, the employee impresses the manager as only going to office one day a week.

Don't tell me managers use HR systems to trace your in-office days. They don't bother.

they don’t enforce it because MDs don’t want to be tacked. MDs are immortals and can go at will. The day he or she goes and you are not there, bad impression has been on record.

it’s a hide and seek game.
you don’t know which day your MD goes to office, you are doomed.
you have to be in office when your MD is in.
that’s the game.

Even for those that have issues and can not go to the office for now? Or can be present every 2 or 3 weeks? The covid affected many people in a number of different ways. The firm should understand it!

Don’t think people are surprised in office is required but rather the lack to enforcement firm wide. I appreciate being in office but if my manager only shows up 1 day randomly then what’s the point. If it’s going to be enforced then the firm needs to be aggressive and make it known so there’s no questions. Meaning if you didn’t get 3 swipes then there a some form of warning.

What I don’t get is why people act like it’s a surprise that they were expected to be in office…. Personal choice to come in or not and face consequences accordingly

No sympathy for those who steadfastly opposed coming to the office. It serves you right. They were only expecting 2 days per week. Not a tough ask.

Totally agree that coming to office is not be useful and the point about desks - however - there would’ve been some memorandum in your org to come in x number of days per week and your mgr would’ve communicated. Your choice is personal on whether or not to abide by it. Managers will not force your hand ….

No because depending on the position you’re just sitting on zoom all day plus certain offices have taken away assigned desks so going into the office seems more about badge swipe metrics than actual “collaboration”. I preferred the assigned desks because I was more inclined to come into the office and people In the building knew where to find me. Now what’s the point unless your team is in the same building/time zone as you.

yes, that's about right. in addition to days, location also matters. if your manager goes to office in 750, and you go to 1 NY Plaza, it'll hurt you.
