Medtronic considering acquisition of Shockwave Medical

https://www.massdevice.com/medtronic-johnson-medtech-shockwave-acquisition-report/

After overpaying for the disasters acquisitions of Intersect and Covidien, Geoff preparing for yet another failure in his cap by overpaying to buy shockwave medical. Their product literally competes with our whole Coronary therapies like DESs and DCBs. Why not ki-l the whole OU while you are at it Geoff? You have already ki-led Aortic.

If being an utter and complete failure was an art, then Geoff would be a Picasso of it

I don't think you've actually read the paper, but what it says is that IVL is used with adjunctive therapies such as POBA, stents, DCBs etc. The whole reason you use IVL is to allow the subsequent deployment of follow on devices. IVL modifies the vessel compliance to allow you to success deploy balloon based technologies to sufficient levels.

You missed a key word in my earlier response which was "initially". The reason you do IVL is to prep the vessel for subsequent POBA/stenting.

Only for vessels where you cant deploy balloons or stent?

I guess no one told DISRUPT investigators who did IVL + stent in 30% of cases: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32242768/

Also, IVL literally uses a balloon on the catheter...how can a vessel NOT be a candidate for POBA, but be a candidate for IVL which also uses a balloon catheter? BRUH...

We don't have a coronary atherectomy product, only peripheral. Shockwave is also used to treat deeper calcium and calcium that is present in vessels with larger diameters than atherectomy can treat

Shockwave/atherectomy is designed to prep vessels in cases where you CAN'T initially deploy a balloon/stent...bruh

What do you mean it doesn't compete with our products? Bruh...you heard of atherectomy? They literally have a calcium cutting head....

Or the chocolate balloon + DCB + stenting stuff that is so commonplace in OBLs.

To the other poster, shockwave doesn't compete with our products. We have nothing in the calcified lesion preparation space. Agree it's overpriced regardless!

Well since the acquisition of HeartWare went so well it only makes sense that they would buy a company led by the former CEO of HeartWare.

There is no more innovation at Medtronic

the best part is how shockwave literally competes against MDT's own portfolio. it doesn't completement...no...it fu----g competes lmao

and the shockwave guys have taken the loser MDT reps to task by taking advantage of the paclitaxel debacle and the lack of any real innovation. the only reason this is even being considered is because Geoff knows his reps lack the motivation to do any real damage to IVL and his company lacks any real innovation.

coming out with smaller/larger sizes of the same sh-t is not innovation...it's line extensions

Good lord, as a riffed employee that looked at Shockwave and said that this would be a terrible acquisition (probably why I was in the rif pool) and that there were better targets out there we should pursue instead. Get ready for another overpriced, remediated product to come though our (well since I've landed elsewhere now, your) pipes that will be divested in 3-5 years.

Is RDN done for?

They won’t buy it as they can’t afford it. Coronary would have to pony up and with rdn on life support they can’t take the risk

Geoff is such a stupid a--hole and he keeps making these ridiculous acquisitions that are bound to fail.

Shockwave does well because they are not Medtronic...I know their business, marketing and customer acq model extremely well and it is literally the antithesis of how things are done here at MDT. Part of me wants them to acquire it so Geoff can add 1 more failure notch to his belt. Maybe 17th time is the charm and the board will wake up right?...RIGHT?
