I haven't been here that long, but in the few years that I've been here, I don't remember a worse time than now. You? I'm disappointed because I think it could have been a lot better if the leadership had made the right moves.

Personally I love WFH.
Allows me to take afternoon naps.
Hope they don't take away this park
There are still some good long-timers in maplewood HQ but they have gotten so demoralized themselves that everyone uses WFH not because they don't want to drive back and forth, but because the atmosphere is so depressing and toxic.
In fact, a lot of these folks miss being around other lifer 3Mers who have a strong work ethic, but knowing that M&M&M boys along with tireman are there completely dampens their day.
And yes, the buttkissers are truly hanging around EVPs and other higher-ups. That happened under Mcnerney too but never this bad.
The person who compared 3M Center to a ghost town or even omega man movie scenes with zombies is spot on. It's like a slow motion crushing car crash just happened and we are driving by the wreckage of a Porsche that once was 3M.
I have talked to multiple people that I know who have been loyal employees for more than 30 years now in the HQ in Maplewood.
The consensus is that this is the worst time that they have seen for the company and the most rudderless management team is in charge now.
When younger employees ask for advice, I simply tell them to look somewhere else for a promising career, this is definitely not the place.
Of course, they are smart people, who don't really need my advice and attrition for people who joined in the last 5 to 7 years is through the roof, much higher than our competitors for sure!
Cramps must be bad this month
Mid 80s hire. 2021 retiree. But still know people internally. It has never been worse. Period. 80s and 90s were mostly great (unless you got dumped into Imation in 1996 and saw your career die slowly on the vine).
The mcnerney era was miserable. That was 2001 to mid 2005 when he divorced his "dream" job to take over Boeing, where his 737s had a little problem, like falling from space to the ground for unknown reasons.
Buckley era was very good coming of mcnerney. The great recession hurt 3M but nowhere near as bad as other companies.
The early years of Inge (2013-2015) seemed fine then he decided GE style costing cutting was best in class. Sold tartan super cheap which pi---d off a lot of 3Mers. Then mike came in and it's been one ugly year followed by uglier by uglier. Morale in 2021 was putrid, but it sounds like M&M&M boys have made this place as happy as a POW camp. In Siberia.
My sanity returned when I retired as I longer had to tell 2 or 3 really good workers that they were fired because 3M needed to cut cost to grow its business (yeah, right).
