I too would like to have hope that this place will be fixed, but maybe that's a bit too much to expect?
Some are still hoping for improvements, but unfortunately, it is unlikely that anything will change except for the worse.

Ex- MDT - get out now, if you can. Med device will struggle while healthcare struggles. Hospitals cant do elective surgeries without nurses or nursing homes.
And no one wants to be a nurse.
To the person who just joined 6 months ago and isn’t sure to keep MDT on their resume — Look, recruiters are fully aware of what’s going on at Medtronic and they understand why everyone here is looking for a new job. Keeping MDT on your resume, even only being here 6 months, won’t look bad thanks to the environment GM has created. Everyone in industry is aware and understands. Just open up your LinkedIn to recruiters only. When you interview, people may already be aware of the impending layoffs but if they don’t just explain you’re looking for a company with job security.
I do not have hope left. I had it for 7 years but the “culture” is too ingrained. Influence over technical, business over engineering, customer over patient, lip service over tangible investments. It’s not one leader, it’s not GM, not one group or OU, not the market, not IE vs MN, not “if Earl was still around,” not DEI, it IS the whole.
I 100% agree with the person who said it’s embarrassing hearing panelists sigh in an interview when you mention being from Medtronic. The dismal work environment, cliques, nepotism and arrogance is well known across the industry and it shines a poor light on the company. I’m leaving the company soon but while i was here, I felt like my manager was trying so hard to fit into a mold. It was embarassing watching them in meetings sometimes. There’s an arrogance coming from the lifers within this company and they think that’s good. Staying at one company and only experiencing one company culture your whole career isn’t great. Get out. Experience healthy company environments. There are companies out there that will celebrate your differences and not look down upon you for being from the outside, thinking differently or bringing new ideas. Maybe the company imploding is a good thing that will cause a huge change.
I joined the company around 6 months ago after quitting my previous job. My optimism has been sucked out. The politics is rampant. No clear directions given from my boss. I don't know what to do. Should I look for other jobs, or continue for a total of 2 years? Any advice is appreciated. I don't know any other forums as active as this one, hence positing here. Please don't hate. Taking MDT off my resume might be difficult since I'll have to go through background check in case I get a different job.
Yep, I took MDT off my CV. A career "gap" is easier to explain than 8 months of MDT where they acquired a business, tried to expand, then laid off me and my entire team as well as my boss. I spoke to Boston Sci today and they have heard/seen what is going on at MDT re the massive layoffs.
it's come to a point where having MDT on your CV is actually detrimental now
with the sheer number of people out there complaining (rightfully so) about the dismal work environment, cliques, nepotism and arrogance at this company, the market perception has long gone from an end game place to aspire to, to a place to actively steer clear from
I've been at interviews recently where the panel just sighed in a sympathetic manner like they just felt sorry for me the minute I said anything about Medtronic. Embarassing
People don't have hope. People are going to do the bare minimum to get a paycheck. Medtronic has fallen
Idk if I come back is possible at this point under the MDT banner. I think we have hit the world of MDT employees under a new brand as the future path.
What is there to be hopeful for after the early retirement program, the RIF and not backfilling vacant positions? This company is driving people past their breaking point and will be so “shocked” when there is a mass exodus. Sure, the company will come back but it’s a matter of how long you can endure through this bullsh-t before this turns around. For anyone who isn’t close to retirement, it’s not worth waiting for this sinking ship to magically turn around.
Just gets worse and this time folks arnt staying around.
Interviewed with a smaller med device firm and they told me I was the 3rd mdt candidate.
I hear ya! Excomm and Geoff need to get RIF’d ASAP. Except Sean Salomon.
