Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

How much notice

How much notice does a supervisor get if they are laying off an employee? Is it the supervisor or HR that does the laying off?

Leaders/Managers are not getting a lot of advance warning. I found out last Thursday that I need to layoff people on the 18/19th.
I had no say or visibility into the whole process before that, No say into whom to let go, but I am expected to deliver the message to the people who are being impacted.

Last time I found out the day before who on my team was getting let go. My boss & HR crashed my 1:1 the next day to deliver the news to that person.

"Managers aren’t finding out about their employees being laid off until right before that meeting is scheduled by HR."

Someone (i.e., above the direct manager) must told HR whom to cut, right.

Based on what has been happening over the last couple of months, you will get a meeting invite from HR for the same day or the next day. Employees are told that they’ll lose access to the network (I.e., email, files, etc) that day but will still be considered as employees for 60 days. They still have benefits during that timeframe and can access internal career resources. Employees are also paid out 2 weeks for every year they were employed by Medtronic, and employees are getting their FY23 MIP. Managers aren’t finding out about their employees being laid off until right before that meeting is scheduled by HR.

Managers know it is coming, may have had some feedback into the High and Low performers, but won't find out until the day before or the day of the layoffs.

For last month’s Neuromod RIF, managers found out the day before and were not included in discussions about who would be impacted.

The process generally takes months. A request for job evaluations starts the process. Extra capacity and candidates in those jobs are identified. The list of candidates is submitted to HR/Legal. Once approved, the notices happen (generally all on the same day or two at a location). Direct manager and HR will deliver the notice.

Your manager will know well in advance who is on the list.

Pay close attention to dates and $.

Best of luck.
