Thread regarding IBM layoffs

RA's in the Great White North?

Seeing the impacts of RAs in US last week, many in software impacted. Dev, ecosystem, PM, support I know directly. Did not hear any in Canada, and the rumor of significant impacts to Canada, NOT in the Markham lab are rampant. Anyone have 'reliable' news to share?

Yes Canada was hit by layoffs today. I’m curious if others received a canned speech lasting 25 seconds.

Canada was hit by layoffs today. Locations different than Markham had small scale layoffs (4% to 8% of the headcount). There will not be an announcement the ppl affected will decide about sharing their situation.

I am seeing a lot of posts about landed resources with the last day of May 4th. So it would seem that this wave is not only targeting US, but also those who are here on visa.

To the poster below - can you elaborate on the "new 70% compliance rule"? And is your math for a combination of 2 waves a total of 24k and $2-3B charge a guess or based on something more concrete? What is the benefit of spreading it out?

I suspect IBM is doing this in two waves to spread the restructuring charges over two quarters just like Meta did.

Wave 1 = RA in USA, PIP worldwide (50% compliance), and 3900 in Kyndryl and Watson Health
Approx 12k RA impacted along with 3-5k per month PIP NET 1-1.5 billion restructure

Wave 2 = RA in rest of the world (mostly Europe and Asia), and PIP worldwide (with new 70% compliance rule)

Again 12k RA impacted along with 3-5k per month PIP NET 1-1.5 billion restructure charge

Haven't heard of any CDN layoffs like the US experienced last week 'en masse'. I agree with poster below in why wait and stagger them country by country.

Talked to my manager about this, I think most offices in Canada is a strategic location so people should be safer (Ontario, Ottawa etc). Was told location is a factor though not the only one. Also whoever was affected should have been told last week already. Hopefully this is not going to happen anytime soon.
