Recently someone left the company because they didn’t want to move to Texas and thanked “all sponsors.” Is this just for HiPos, or can anyone request one? How does it actually work — do they assign sponsors to their favorites?

I worked in BMT fresh out of college as an engineer. I found out I was HiPo 3 years in. What I did was su-k up to the engineering DH and Manager and also performed well. But then I kept getting bumped up and saw how it was ruining my life lol. So I quit and chose life instead. Ended up with a much better paying job and have yet to open my laptop at home in the past year.
If you haven’t been told you are a HiPo, then you likely aren’t one. You find out when/if your supervisor tells you your potential. I was CL34 potential but couldn’t imagine being confirmed to the ruthless XOM manger type.

If you have to ask about if you’re high-po, you aren’t. If you have to ask for a sponsor, no one wants to sponsor you.
I know an executive who only sponsors employees who went to the same university as he went to. He is a Downstreamer. UNM alumni. Total pr--k he is

@a7 Agree. There’s a guy on our team who interned at ExxonMobil every summer during his grad school, and his dad did consulting for EM. The moment he joined full‑time, the VP’s admin started scheduling quarterly meetings for him with the VP. He also has quarterly meetings with the head of the department. It’s pretty clear he’s being groomed for a future C‑suite track and definitely has sponsorship behind him.
Seems like networking and being hipo is the first step then they decide to sponsor you or not

Sponsors pick their hipos. You cannot sign up for it. It is pure luck and connections - many hipos have parents who worked at EM.
