How long does it take to receive your savings fund if you leave the company under your own steam ? Does it also get taxed heavily ?

No expert here, but if you don’t need the money for food, rent, etc, you could/should roll your 401k over to an IRA and avoid any taxes on it for now. Any broker (like Edward Jones, Charles Schwab) can guide you through it.
