Anyone who didn't see layoffs happening probably should have been the first to go.
Merging 2 large Cell Phone, there's obviously going to be serious headcount reduction.
That said, the seemingly indiscriminate way about it is ridiculous.
The last layoffs, PEs & Sr Engineers with many years experience and a serious wealth of knowledge were cut leaving the far less experienced and knowledgeable folks to not only pick up the extra slack, but do so while still learning the systems with no next level support team to seek help from. Seems like "they" enjoy sitting on a Magenta colored tower to watch the little people scurry about.

If you work remotely, you should be concerned. If you did not get the jab, you should be concerned.
Most of the people I saw let go were US Citizens and in their 50s.
For the original poster and some others...Selections vary by org and really even by each leader making the choice. There's no directive to eliminate more tenured people. Salary isn't part of the equation either. It's about reducing headcount. How each leader chooses to do that can vary, but there are assessments of people in similar positions and then HR and legal reviews before final approval of selections.
It's not about Legacy systems. Almost the entire ATS team that handled Ericsson & Nokia OSS was layoff last round. Something like 25 folks, leaving 4, non PEs.
Not about Salary or longer term folks either. I know a handful of people with 18 - 25 plus years still around as well as folks 3 - 10 years.
Layoffs is good, more layoffs now and more hiring later
EIT All Hands meeting I was just on confirmed that selection for reduction was based not on performance or salary, but on what systems and capabilities are going to be retained.
Like amdoc ?
Nope, its about clearing out those legacy systems that are not planned to be what the future state company uses. There are quite a few legacy technologies and vendors that are part of the current legacy ecosystem that will go away.
It is all about salary, getting rid of the people who have been around along time.
