Oxy is great place to work. Like some say below work hard and show up each day with a good attitude. You will get good assignments and bad throughout your career. Do your best in each situation and show management you are a team player. As well, show respect to your manager and co-workers and they will respect you. Don't be afraid to asked questions because no one expects you to know it all. If possible engage the older employees and learn as much as you can. Most older employees enjoy teaching the younger employees from what I have seen. But, just like I would tell my kids show up on time and show people you have a strong work ethic. To me that goes a long way getting the attention of the people that matter.

Show up to work everyday with you knee pads on and either sniff unwashed a$$ or keep your mouth wide open ready to swallow that musty pickle. If you do that, you'll do very well.

You have do what feels natural to you. If doing the best technical job and communicating in a professional manner is your thing, go for it. If being a self promoter on top of a strong technical base does it for you, go for it. What you don’t want to do is be a BSer with no substance. These people generally end up losing respect of those around them and ultimately are found out.

Why would you as a new hire come here and expect to get non-biased answers from people who like to complain? Work hard, be ethical, and collaborate. You will do fine. Judge for yourself.

The intern program is really nice. Get to work on a meaningful project, meet/interact with members of the leadership team, and go on a few different trips. A lot of peer events during the internship as well. Great way to get to know the company as well as figure out if it is a match for you. Think the hard part is making sure to focus on your project and execute with all the other planned events.

I've been an intern mentor for several years.

Keep one eye on the future and learn where the exits are. Oxys past is going to catch up with it.

Concentrate on doing a great technical job and communicate the results well in writing, and in presentations. Keep in touch with your boss so that they don’t have to ask you how things are going. Don’t worry about getting ahead. If you are doing an excellent job you will get those first few promotions.

Work hard, take advantage of all the resources you have. Time flies and you will find that out first hand. Take all progress presentations seriously and be ready for the final presentation. You are competing with the other interns for a job. Biggest mistake I have seen from interns is not knowing when to tell their mentors they do not know the answer to a given question. The correct response is that you will do your homework and get back to them.... We all know when stuff is made up. Fastest way to lose credibility. Accept constructive criticism...Your team wants you to succeed.
Good luck!
