GF Wastes So Much Money on "Projects"

Have you noticed here at GF we waste so much money on "projects". They give these projects some special code name to make them sound important and then they dump lots of money into them and they never compete. It is sort of like GF trying to do their own technologies like 20nm and 7nm failures, they just can't seem to finish any projects. We are currently dumping tons of money into project Phoenix to tackle the broken IT systems at GF. Project Phoenix is spending millions each year and they are trying to boil the ocean instead of getting small wins. Project Phoenix will be another bad investment, another "OneGF" waste of money. Now there is development running project "Falcon" to do tech dev faster and with low-cost geography resources. Many of the execs leading this are total id--ts and many of them have no idea what end to end development even is, this is another project that will accomplish nothing but yet we will dump a bunch of money into it. GF just keeps doing these projects and wasting money and then wonders why TSMC and UMC are kicking their a-s financially. If they really want to fix things, we need to clean house in the SLT and start over with fresh ideas instead of having retread execs who are a collection of failures from other companies.

All these projects are another 3-5 years job security for those driving it and awarded to incompetent vendors who had failed multiple times before. These guys will bailed out to other roles in the middle of it. Cloud ultimately will cost us more but will be too late then.

Yes ONEGF was/is going to fail from onset. All know it. Ironically it was meant to speed things up and streamline things to increase productivity but has actually slowed things down by making people pretend to adhere to it and jump through unnecessary hoops. It goes back to our incompetent management. It is a perfect example of them not understanding how to manage.

Poor vision and leadership is the root cause of current terrible state of GF.

yes @mxf exactly!! We invest tons of money, then a new exec comes along, ki-ls the old project we invested millions in before it finishes or contributes anything useful and then the new shiny project comes along which is supposed to be much better and once again improve processes/integration across GF. However, we still sit here almost 14 years into existence and ONEGF is still not really being focused on across the company. Customers continue to tell us working with different fabs in GF is like working with a different company every time. It is extremely frustrating to invest your own personal time in these projects and then eventually they get cut and never ROI. This cycle continues over and over and over ........ 14 years since being founded, over 7.5 years since IBM acquisition and still ONEGF is a joke!!

I also feel like a lot of the projects pushed are dropped forgotten about for some shiny new one. Like we never complete or finish any. Just new one comes a long and old ones fade into obscurity.
