Does anyone else find it incredibly ironic and insulting that the organization put a ton of money behind a documentary about the critical importance of skilled workers and the week it premiered at Sundance Film Festival they announced they were laying off 2,500 skilled workers?? Someone please explain it to me. And they are still promoting it!

Simply PR to try to offset PFAS issues
Our "Science Chief" does one thing well!
Write poems that rhymes well. No mean task.
But hey hey hey ! I was doing that in grade 7 myself.
Main job is to promote good PR for 3M as a science based company where minorities have done well providing her own example. Basically provide good optics to the external world.
The person is a good speaker as long as you don't bring up what new and ground breaking science and technology she has created from a career spanning over three decades! From what I understand her reputation internally as a top class scientist is 3M is rather shallow !
This person does nothing. And playing every dei card to the max on LinkedIn (🤮). Travelling all over (during travel ban!!) and attending film festivals. And shes not alone. We have many more vp/svp level ppl doing that. Its a shame the double standard company we have become. This is the problem with chief titles. You can invent garbage endlessly.
What is the actual role of our Chief Science Advocate? What does this person actually do that helps the company earn $$.
Does anybody give a hoot about what she says or writes about ?
What other useless positions does the company still support during this period of grave crisis ?
Skilled at pptx and cut paste, yes that still matters. And posting on LinkedIn.
No.
Easily offshored to China or India.
Lowest cost, highest quality skilled labor in the world.
The op is engaged in false conflation. Please think through. The only thing i would criticize is the needless promotion of a useless documentary that no one except jayshree our chief “who knows what i do” science advocate is ranting about to stay relevant. Its cringy!
Another one: the most ethical company - 2022 get a jab or get fired, oh look no more virus, what will be next? "help" Ukraine by selling them overpriced products through the goverment? My respiratory training 2016 question:, do N95s protect against viruses? the 3M's product manager's answer is NO, because thy are smaller than dust particulates. Such an honest and ethical enterprise.
it is crazy , but nothing surprises me anymore, everyone now knows these are the final years of the company's existence, at least the Parentco P.L.C. which will be sold off to pay for the AAERO debacle , the Healthcare Spinco will calm the share price which MR and MP need , but GE are waiting in the wings for a multi-billion buyout 4-5 years down the road, so keep your shares till then and you will be very well off
