How safe are we for the rest of the month?

In 6 to 9 months there will be job openings for “qualified” people with 1 to 3 years of experience. The layoff dance will continue, next year to get rid of the higher paid or those that didn’t “fit in”. The dance continues…..
I move to argue that those laid off are actually the “safe” ones
Agree 100%, but at least the movie division has the potential for some income, down the Hollywood road. But what about the Mattel TV division? anyone laid off there? they never made any money, and never will.
No one from the movie division was affected. They never are. They have more people than other departments and hire and promote when there are freezes. And they only have one greenlit movie (that Mattel isn't even producing). It's a joke. It's because they report to Ynot and none of the rules apply to them.
It's a good point that there had to have been a crazy high investment over the last few years in the movie business that has generated no revenue so far. I know for a fact we've developed toys for movies that haven't come out yet, putting the toys on "hold." Maybe it's going to pay off at some point, but tell that to all the employees who lost their jobs. The pandemic caused a solid 2 year delay in the process, of course.
So how many people did the “movie division “ lose? Realize there are entertainment events upcoming, but have not contributed a cent to top-line revenue or bottom-line profit yet. Someone needs to do some searching to find out.
When they announce the return to work, we will automatically lose some heads and it will all works itself out.
layoffs happen right before the living wage/bonus increase is given out. especially in a down year which has been every year for the past 10? once they’re done only the “special cases” will be let go.
"they got rid of several good, highly qualified people pretty much just because" That's the problem.
I get the need to downsize, but there are people that are highly paid and horrible at their jobs. Some are just horrible people that create hostile work environments. This is the time to rid these people and make a better work place and work force. But because they know where to plant their lips, they move along.
Layoff patterns aside, you’re never actually safe. Was recently in a situation where they got rid of several good, highly qualified people pretty much just because. Nothing to do with performance, no typical layoff timing, not even a budgetary justification. Just ‘cause.
Layoffs are typically a once a year event. Usually before end of first quarter (Feb/Mar).
There have been times with two layoffs in a year. The second one happens around end of third quarter (Sep/Oct). Yes, right before the holidays.
Hopefully the forecasters didn't over project like the always do, and this is the only one of the year. Although, there are plenty of people that should have been gone a long time ago
And the rest of the year, while at it?
