My manager was laid off and I subsequently transferred to a new team under a different manager. How long do you think I have until I’m next on the chopping block? I’m already looking for another job but it’s been pretty tough lately.

Most of the CW software developers that I worked with last year, left HP, because HP kept furloughing them. I finally had to leave also. It was the best decision that I ever made.
I talked to a former HP coworker last week and she said that HP has not replaced any of the CW’s who left last year (due to a hiring freeze).
Even though I was a contractor, I loved my job at HP but I felt that HP did not value my work since I kept getting furloughed and I was severely underpaid with no hope of a raise or getting hired as a full time employee.
I left HP and received a huge salary increase at my new position and my new manager asked me if I was interested in becoming a full time employee.
HP is also shuffling contract agencies. Whole groups of contractors are being moved from one agency to another without the contractors (CW's) consent. This is an HP tactic to lower CW wages. My bet is that HP will see a lot of CW's leave and some of them have key positions in their groups.
Seen a lot of reshuffling of teams and managers the last few weeks. Happens every time there are cut backs.
You got transferred, so I would guess you are safe for now. Don't jump ship unless you find something with higher pay and better benefits.
