Plenty of job openings... What gives? Fake news?
- Thoughts go out to all the FieldCore technicians. I'm in a leadership role at a GE O&M wind farm. Every FieldCore tech who came through was an asset to our site operations, I truly wish you all well. If it were up to me I'd hire each and every one as we could use the help but unfortunately we're victim to the "lean transformation" principles that trickle down from corporate think tanks resulting in hiring freezes and incredibly restrictive cost models.
- We have had a few technicians come through from Premier Energy Services (https://www.linkedin.com/company/riseabove-energy-services-llc). It's a smaller company based out of Vancouver, WA (only 30-40 technicians I believe). I'm not sure what their status is currently on hiring technicians however one perk I do know with them is they will pay their techs 40 hours/week while sitting on the bench. Other than them, some travel O&M companies that come to mind not yet mentioned are:
Gemini Energy Services (http://www.geminienergyservices.com/), Spark Power (https://sparkpowercorp.com/companies/one-wind/), JMS Wind Energy (https://www.jmswindenergy.com/), Pearce Renewables (https://www.pearce-renewables.com/), Barr Fabrication Services (http://barrfab.com/), Airway Services (https://airwayservicesinc.com/), 300 Feet Wind (https://www.300feetwind.com/), RENEW Energy (https://www.renewenergy.com/) and Fairwind (https://fairwind.com/).
- Fortunately there never seems to be a shortage of demand for good technicians in these travel roles and plenty of legitimate companies to choose from that'll keep you busy and a paycheck coming. If looking to get out of wind I'd suggest sticking to the power generation industry where trade skills will be pertinent, if you're able to of course area dependent. Lots of guys and gals I've worked with in wind have moved onto dams, solar (not the best pay), substation operations, utilities, nuclear and gas turbine facilities. Persevere!
Called it. Layoffs are happening now.
Doubling down on this. Will happen right before next investor meeting.
What else is new? Hey it’s GE and soon to be Verona super nova layoff.
Sure why not, outsource the field support... part of hte standard GE game plan.
Fake news.
I could see the service managers and field engineers rolling back under GE. I don’t think anyone will get laid off since we don’t have enough field engineers or craft. Back to a QCI or granite setup is most likely.
Again with the dead horse? I wish he'd sue you.
