Leaving CHC amidst layoffs

Hey all! Current Change employee here…. Over the last few weeks there’s been more and more layoffs following the Optum merger. I’ve been with CHC since 2020 and felt secure in my job until recently. Love the work I do, love my team, but hate working every day with the thought that today could be the day I get a call telling me I’m part of a RIF. I’ve interviewed with a couple other companies and have one offer currently on the table. Is this a valid reason to leave CHC? Just really want to avoid getting caught in any layoffs. Any advice is appreciated!

Run. Don't walk. Run. As others have said, if your work is already being done at Optum, the chances of you having any security at all are close to nil.

You're brave for sticking with it as long as you have. When this whole acquisition was first announced, I noticed that a lot of former Optum/UHG folks at CHNG were heading for the door...quickly. More than a few commented, "NOT going back there!" That reaction, combined with the obvious specter of the usual post-acquisition bloodletting, led me to get out in 2021. My entire department did the same. Now we're watching as most of our remaining colleagues are being cut loose. You're just a number. And if you're in a redundant position/department, or in a shared service, you're probably toast.

Seems there are a lot of us feeling the same way and exploring other options. I don’t believe for a second things will get better the longer we stick it out here. Optum has a terrible reputation in the industry. Providers despise UHG. Go look at Optum’s layoff board to get a sense of the culture, they’re in the same boat we are, but on a more regular basis. You’ll undoubtedly feel at peace about leaving. I am not up for becoming a soulless bootlicker and sticking around for this sh!tshow.

The RIF will happen on March 9th. If you get past that date without being impacted, you’re probably ok for a while.

Run and don’t look back. Change Healthcare was never the same when they merged with McKesson’s Technology business. I worked for CHC for about twelve years. I loved my team, coworkers, and initially the culture, but management squashed any enjoyment fast. Leave the toxicity. You won’t regret it. Good luck.

Take it and run! Consider yourself very lucky! Don’t look back - only go forward! Good Luck!

Yes, if the new job offer is comparable or better, leave.

You will still have the good relationship with your ex colleagues. Look after yourself first.
