Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

DG essentially put all employees on a PIP. He’s trying to sink the ship!

No bonus, no 401k match, and increased scrutiny is exactly the treatment you’d expect if you were on a performance improvement plan, but they’re treating every employee this way. How can he get away with this, unless they want everyone to underperform and eventually be fired or quit? How isn’t this a bigger story?

I hope employees can find other jobs and jump off this sinking ship. But certainly the best is to see WDC close the shop because they don’t deserve any talented people working there at all.

Is HR writing this? "It sounds like you're feeling frustrated with the recent changes in compensation and benefits. It's important to consider the broader context for the company's decision, such as changes in market conditions or other factors impacting the company's ability to offer bonuses and 401k matches. It's worth noting that changes in compensation and benefits are not uncommon for companies facing financial distress. Companies have the right to make changes to their compensation and benefits packages they deem necessary."

I think if ELT put their total compensation on a similar “pip” there would be less grumbling. But 20% of base compensation is more like 5-10% cut to total compensation depending on which elt member you pick, while the rest of the workforce is seeing 20-40% TC cut. The inequity of pain sharing is cause for consternation.
