Can’t spend $28 on part

I was told I can’t spend $28 on a part for the lab that would have helped keep things on schedule. No using P-card nor using Tech Fellow funds period. It’s been over 2 months now and can’t move forward with the project due to $14. I argued over and over how absurd it is and let management know it was going to hurt the project, but kept running into a brick wall.

I had thought about ordering the part with my own money, but the more I thought about the stupid decisions they are making I decided not to, sc--w it.

Spend dollars saving nickels. It is the way. It is a good thing we are entrenched in the industry.

The same things happened again and again within these months. See, leadership cares only about the number, and what the dollar sign looks like on the paperwork sent to Wall Street. Fortunately, my project is on the priority list, so, purchasing for the project is not a big problem from AOP.
But still, from what I heard, TF pretty much will have at least 50% deduction. I am applying for something around 30k$, but hopeless now.
My strategy is to fill all of my time doing training, learning, and absorbing every single available resource within MDT. Waiting for May to plan on registering for conferences and purchasing!

Absolutely the same in our dept, just got a denial for my less than $100 request.

Geoff Martha here. I know it has been a difficult time, but our future is bright! Not spending that $28 now sets us up for success in the future! Thank you for all of your hard work, your 2% is coming in July. You earned it! I have to go now, negotiating my 15% raise.

Your Servant Leader,

GM

Just ordered $150 worth of parts from Ariba and was approved. Like a lots of electronic components, the lead time is way too long (e.g., months)

From the Manager perspective

  • they are accountable for "spending freeze" , so don't spend
  • any project deliverable delay is forgiven in reorg, project cancel, re-prioritization, AOP replan, their next job
  • any issue is still blamed on individual contributors, the manager is responsible for Feel Good goals and culture

Yes, hopefully, that manager will be laid off --- but this layoff won't make sense and we'll spend the next 6 months trying to pull it together

Our group has had similar purchase amounts rejected as well.

It’s short sighted and reactionary.

What? That’s crazy. Usually we can order anything under $700 on ariba and it’s auto approved
