If you are an employee or investor in SWN and are not outraged at the CEO and Board comp, then you aren't paying attention.
Since our CEO took that title, our stock performance is negative (-28%) and we are in exactly LAST place of our self-picked peers over this timeframe. The next closest peer has a stock performance of -3% during that timeframe and AVERAGE performance is 70%. He is clearly out of his league and the Board is there as well by overseeing this performance and continuing to keep him at the helm. Read our proxy and expect to hurl at all the self-gratification commentary from our chair and performance related dialogue.
Our CEO has been paid over $55 million over that timeframe (including the recent bonus of $1.5 million) and the Board has also rewarded themselves handsomely. A number of Board members are long-timers and some are relatively new. However, the data is clear, they have done NOTHING to deserve that type of compensation and clearly well underperforming their peers.
It is well past time for a change! If you want a change, then do something about it. Broadcast this message or one similar to it everywhere. The only message or action that the Board listens to is one in which they are embarrassed. At a minimum, they should be embarrassed!!
