So I took the package and now I am quiet quitting until June 30th. I have a month long vacation left - so I’ll take that, and not show up to work or even do anything beyond the minimum expected. Free money is great. Thanks GM.

The big 3 finally realized that their engineers are useless. The current engineers hire outside contractors to do the engineering.
It's best to eliminate the internal workforce and hire outside contractors to do the work. The Big 3 can save billions per year just by doing this.
I think they'll outsource to other countries as much as they can as soon as they can because it's cheaper.
Bringing people here is a short term measure.
In Austin at least most of the staff are H1Bs or NCHs.
Keeps costs down.
Poor English isn't necessarily a sign of a CCP troll.
There are many people working here on an h1b, and other foreign born people who don't speak English natively.
And I suspect their English is better than your Hindi or Mandarin.
It's easy to dismiss and pick apart the lies and misinformation from trolls.
- "I will never buy an "American" car again never! its design and made elsewhere!"
"It's design and made elsewhere!" Is this how Americans talk? Is this proper English? NO. Aside from that, anyone who works in engineering at GM (I DO!) knows there are literally thousands of employees designing the cars in Michigan. Most of our suppliers are in Michigan. As to where the cars are made, you can do a quick web search to find auto plants all around the midwest.
- "Guys this is not personal they just sending engineering job offshore."
Really? There are 58,000 salary employees at GM. Many of which are in Engineering. I don't work with any offshore people, and there are no plans for this. I have worked for suppliers that tried using offshore labor 20 years ago. Guess how that ended? Incompetence, wasted time and rework meant that suppliers brought the work right back to Michigan. Another lie.
- "MBAs need to make a little more so we will ki-l automotive in US in next 20 years to achieve this."
So the assertion here is that for automotive corporations to succeed, it is hiring MBAs to destroy the automotive market? LOL Seriously? The troll is either a 7th grade dropout or a Xi Jinping troll. Either way, up your game man! This is pathetic.
Guys this is not personal they just sending engineering job offshore.
MBAs need to make a little more so we will ki-l automotive in US in next 20 years to achieve this.
I will never buy an "American" car again never! its design and made elsewhere!
"Don’t be surprised when management finds it easy to justify replacing people..."
Management is going to do whatever they want.
They're not going to justify anything, especially when it improves profits and their own compensation.
The SLT will replace people with overseas staff who make a few dollars a day or computers the instant they can.
Anything to cut costs and increase profits.
AI can answer phone calls, write reports and even code.
“Free money is great.”
Enjoy it while it lasts.
Don’t be surprised when management finds it easy to justify replacing people with templates, algorithms, macros, software, AI, outsourcing.
GM is not my family even though I work there. It’s just my pay master. When it started consuming a lot of my mental strength, I decided it was time to leave the company. I don’t have moms dad sisters or brothers at GM. I only have coworkers who are vultures ready to grab my skin for food.
Most of us actually like are coworkers and are happy to do our part to set the project up for success as much as possible.
This was SLT's choice. Why would they let people quit and then stay around for months?
When people signed up for the VSP on Friday, they should have been processed out on Monday.
Just another sign of poor management.
Sound familiar? This is corporate HR for you
Workplace bullying
turns into mobbing
when HR believes
the false narrative of
the person in power
who operates on ego.
HR then pushes you out
to get rid of
the threat of liability and
to maintain their («
organizational power,
lowering the number of
people left who care
about the organization,
which never included
Sweet. You get 3 months to destroy your professional reputation by dialing it in.
Integrity has a price.
If you think you won’t run into people who remember you at a different job, you need to think again. Hiring managers ask people who you might have worked with what you are like. Be that guy everyone recommends!
Or not.
Best regards,
Dad
PS make me proud!
I second the motion to ask questions in the Town Hall that will make those elitist dopes squirm!
What is wish is if one of the vsp takers ask some questions at the upcoming townhall…why do you “leaders” keep repeating the same cycle every 4 years? Vsp then potential layoff? Bad financial decisions?
If there is no isp, the slt lack of leadership and innovation concerns me and I may vacate after I get more experience. I don’t trust their decision making anymore. I wasn’t eligible for the vsp, fyi.
Or better yet…don’t show up. I mean who makes people show up to these things? I detest listening to people in $$$ outfits who make millions tell more lies. Who can wfh but yet, the rest of us have to.
Sorry when on a tangent lol.
When did you leave? I left a couple of years ago thanks to a toxic boss. The funny part of my hiring process 6 years so involved calling me to get a reference for myself!!! Nuff said
GM has a bunch of zombies leading the company. They are less leaders and more followers of Tesla
Sigh... I left GM a long time ago because it's management was poor. What does that mean? Innovation was dead, cost was king and the fast follower ruled the day. Not to mention a prideful stance in Alfred Sloan's planned obsolescence as real genius.
Un-inspired and running on legacy to this day. Perhaps this pandering, bloated enterprise should make way for something else. Maybe something where employees believe in their contributions and a small group of the truly committed enjoy every day they come to work.
Some say that is called creative destruction. I don't like that phrase as it's rooted in economics, another pseudo science IMHO. Anyhow perhaps we can all realize the time is long overdue for real change and I don't mean the leadership team... That's toxic too.
