Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Threatened and harassed

I was threatened and harassed on my exit of IBM, and my personal phone searched by CIO. This seemed not right and I heard a lawsuit was being opened against IBM and the CIO, specifically NN (actual name withheld). Does anyone have information about this? I have an excellent case to present for this.

I'm not skeptical of the story - but I would have refused and insisted that he watch over my shoulder as I uninstalled the IBM cruft. It's all sandboxed and encrypted data so uninstalling their cruft would remove all that.

So for any registered devices - unenroll and scrape clean. Phone, laptop, etc.

I concur with other posters (1) IF they want me accessible by phone - they can provide another; (2) Never mix work and home on any device.

I learned that the hard way at a previous job when I naively showed up with laptop and didn't leave with it.

Always get a separate phone from your employer! I'm sure you agreed to IBM terms and they probably could have wiped your phone remotely.

Because I used Slack and WebEx and had Box and enrolled my device, I was told it was “used for IBM business” and they had a right to search my phone. I had to give them my phone passcode. I complied because I just wanted out, but now I feel this was an overreach of authority because technically they could have looked at anything on my phone that was not business related.

I'm skeptical of this story.

That sounds frightening. On what basis did they claim a right to search your phone? How did they get the password?

I hope you didn't have IBM spyware on your phone?

For everyone else reading this, never ever put IBM spyware on your personal phone. If you need a phone for work, tell your manager that you need a phone for work and you will not use your personal phone. And if they tell you to unlock your personal phone, dial 9-1 and hold your hand over the 1 and ask them if you should really push it. If they get within 5 feet, press it. If not, take it to your car or other safe place and lock it up. Then finish the exit interview.
