Maybe more people should have taken the VSP.
But everyone thinks someone else will get laid off.

Reminder, there's no "ISP". No package! You are let go with a pitiful severance. That's it!
Here's another thing that people aren't remembering that mainly applies to engineering staff because they are trapped in the industry.
After deep cuts, there's always the "hiring freeze". Contract shops and suppliers won't hire people for very long periods of time because GM won't pay. After a year or so, people will be told, "don't bother applying if you are out of a job." Deja vu, you are on the outside looking in. Look for really good deals on campers, jet skis, and motorcycles in a year.
As to any overlap with VSP and a mass layoff, we are dealing with ruthless people who have all of this planned out. It's all moving quickly so TBH I don't expect them to hold back later than a week or two from now. The people who took the VSP might end up watching a horror show take place.
When are you technically separated after you accepted the VSP? Id have to think a month or two after is when ISP will happen.
You must be talking about the Oct ‘18 to Feb ‘19 layoff that took years off your life waiting for the ‘all clear’.
I vividly remember and took the ‘23 VSP.
Whether ISP will take place after VSP, I just want them to get it done quickly. No one can work under anxiety of thinking if he/she will have to go or not. The sooner the better so the ones who still in can continue working and the ones who are leaving can start looking for new jobs or settle down their retirement or spending time with their hobbies. Every two years, GM plays this layoff game to torture their employees - that's brutal.
