Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Does anyone in management actually know and understand business fundamentals?

It blows my mind, that management does not appear in the least to
understand how to run a business. In a world of 'cheaper, cheaper,
you must do it more cheaply', management seems completely oblivious.
Everything that has been done, except hiring people in cheaper
countries, has caused the cost of doing literally anything to
increase. Every choice made has been slower, more cumbersome, less
robust, and more expensive.

All of these poorly designed and deliberately added bits of friction
for things such as security, auditing and dead-d-mb automated testing
have made product development, support, internal communication and
documentation, slower -- and therefore more expensive.

It is as if no one has even taken a basic marketing class or gives a damn what customers want. All internal politics and children trying to grasp at straws. What a hot mess.

I'd say understanding business fundamentals starts with wearing your glasses correctly.

I'm looking at you Magoo, but can you see me?

My manager is a first-time people manager. Disaster.

Also: notice how Dumit came from EUC. Most of the worst managers at VMW overall have come from EUC. And they're all from the same country.

so they latch on to the biggest, loudest people who sound like they know what
they are talking about (but who are also incompetent).

When you latch on to the people who talk loudly but deliver nothing, you're in for a bad time.

Qualifications are not required. Just look at the mo--ns in high places in DC

Yes, it isn’t an explicit goal - more of a consequence of what comes out of business schools or wherever these fücktàrds claim about their ivory tower experience to land a SVP or VP job. Sometimes they have zero experience as in the case of project/product managers who also do tons of damage. Only founders have enough heft to keep the mo--ns at bay. Just need to accept it for what it is and plan your life accordingly.

That is the goal of the managerial class.

You make it seem like they have the brains to plan and execute this. i think you missed the mark. This is direct result of management who have no idea what they are doing, so they latch on to the biggest, loudest people who sound like they know what they are talking about (but who are also incompetent).

It's an Emperor's New Clothes vibe, all the way down.

That is the goal of the managerial class. Tech companies run by founders have the ability to withstand bureaucratic decay. VMware lost that ability a long time ago.
