@genuinefeedback my experience of our commercial area teams is that they support us well in the running of business. The issue for me is the centralised corporate teams (those not within the commercial teams). I see little value in these roles and they have limited impact on day to day activities.
There is an army of area team that collates report up to global division. Their main roles is to collect data from countries, paraphrase the reports, and updates it to the global VP or directors. And usually information goes only one way.
Hope tireman realises this and cut this expensive layer instead of layoff the working level of production

Cut out the belly fat, contributing nothing yet causing great harm to the human body.
An army of middle mangers exist in 3M, whose sole job is to collate reports, micro manage and get credit for other people's work. Just the HQ has literally hundreds of middle managers.
Cut it out now. Majority don't contribute in any meaningful way. Nobody will miss them.
Unfortunately SAP didn't deliver its promise for efficiency improvement at 3M
