Thread regarding 3M layoffs

3M layoff choices

Am I the only one who is blown away that 3M lays off the people who make product or runs critical roles to production yet they haven't cut costs at any management levels who make much more than production type employees. It's completely backwards if you're trying to cut costs. How smart is this company?

Not popular- but there has been quite a bit of middle management and upper management laid off as a3m collapses. “Retirements” and “left for other opportunities”

Can’t get rid of people in SAP deployment. Since most don’t have a clue they might risk accidentally eliminating the one person who knows something.

There's a lot of middle management at 3M

Hire 2 new part time retired board members with no experience in 3M related products like the rest of the board during a layoff. Great waste of money. Makes sense.

This person is talking about high pay grade, non value added roles like Division and Corporate roles. Corporate and GSC staff groups are bloated. Why we still have large SAP deployment teams and layers of redundancy, without need, it is pretty obvious waste of resources.
just look at Org charts still a lot of replication in Corporate organizations charts. Not site management or Senior Site leaders, still a lot of middle managers at 3M Center that have great resumes but do very little work. The leadership sets the example and many of them are barely around, barely available and don't care about results. They eliminated many recent O2 roles and Virtually all Master and Senior Black belt, and black belt roles, even ones transitioned to CIM leaders for sites , yet there are still multiple layers of management and corporate staff groups related to those initiatives,a lot of cronies from failed past SAP teams that failed upwards. All those Strategic Business planning, Strategic Senior Design, Supply Chain Architect, Division Supply Chain Specialist, Division Directors, Corporate Supply chain planners, and Senior planners that look at NWI once in a while, tons of redundancy in roles, Division Supply Chain Managers, Corporate Value Stream Managers, and Senior Management like Division Vice Presidents, Senior Operatons Leaders. There are more bloated levels of high paying roles without direct reports and redundancy than ever before at 3M since 2019. Any shareholder can see it not just employees. That is what you call the fat and bureaucracy.

Well, mark murphy literally created two new SVP positions in IT at the same the layoffs happened in September. Optics are really good on that move. I am hearing alot of IT Security employees are leaving because the newly hired SVP of security is crazy.

It should tell you that there’s little concern for production to the point where the lights and machinery in the building will soon flip to the off position. Management roles are just there to babysit aka micromanage until their time comes as well.
