The state took my information and sounded like the last day of work was what counted.
Would think they are aware of the severance package ?
The question has been brought up ..
I received my info and should get the payout info soon .
We can compare notes
Seems like a clown show with the detailes just hanging in the breeze..
In ny I’d file not this Friday but the following one and that would be unpaid waiting week
Agree with previous poster, definitely file. They will determine if you’re eligible, and if you aren’t they will be able to tell when you will be. Good luck.
Hello,
I don't know much about the severance package but I know a little about unemployment ins. Unemployment benefit calculation is based on quarters. The state will generally look at your past 4-5 quarters of income, take the highest quarter and divide that by 26 to get your weekly rate (to not exceed a certain cap). The state generally does not look at the current quarter, so the advice to wait until this quarter is over may be to ensure q1 is calculated (all the severance payments will likely ensure this is your high quarter and you get the maximum benefit). If everything is paid out and you are officially terminated from gf do not wait until Oct. The best advice I can give is to file for benefits. It is not illegal to file for benefits so long as you are truthful in the application process ( the worst they can say is "no" or "you need to wait" for whatever reason.) Good luck to everyone.
Several people from Vermont attended a help session from the state and it was mentioned not to request benefits in the quarter in which you receive severance. One person on the call kept asking when they should file but the presenter would not supply a date. It was mentioned you could apply in October but they failed to give details on any specific reasoning behind this date.
