Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How difficult is it finding a new job in these days?

Major companies are reducing head-count in these days. My understanding is the focus is on non-technical jobs, but overall a non-significant number of technical jobs are axed as well.

The job market must be over-saturated. I wonder how difficult it is for Cisco folks to find an outside job.

How many resume have you sent out? Number of interviews? Number of fair / unfair offers? How long did it take to find a new job? Bay Area? Elsewhere? Still looking?

Very difficult to get a new job if you remain in the SF Bay Area. Almost impossible if you are 45+ years old. Consider getting laid off from Cisco San Jose as your final motivation to move out of California. If you want more freedom, move to a red state. If you think government should control more, move to a blue state. If you own your home, evacuate California while property values are still high. Recession, the next big earthquake, fires, increased taxes...pick your poison. Any or all of them are going to tank property values. You will have an easier time getting a job and paying for a comfortable lifestyle no matter which state you choose.

It’s very difficult for both the old and young. We are in a recession.
