Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Too big to fail?

I find it curious to constantly hear people say that Hy vee is too big to fail. Is it really so, or is it just people trying to find an excuse for not putting enough effort into looking for something new? Too big to fail is the lamest argument I've heard from anyone intending to stay here.

I've never heard a single person say anything remotely like that.

How dare you say HyVee is a regional grocery store. We run ad commercial at the Super Bowl to show everyone that we are a nationwide grocery. We have Indy car race team. Yes we might only have stores in 8 states but we are known nation wide as the best retail non grocery store. I’m the next ten year will will be operating a store in every state in the main land.

When that’s thrown around it’s in regards to the huge banks that handle huge portions of the American economy.
The government is not going to step in to keep a regional grocery chain from failing. That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard.
The company will be bought out long before it gets to that point.

HyVee has failed the last ten years! You ask why? Because HyVee has spent the last decade trying not to be a grocery store. They spent all of their efforts on bad ideas that never really had a return on investments. That’s why HyVee is in such bad shape. Now they are cutting labor across the company to the point it’s hurting the company mission. HyVee has lost its identity. What is the new mission statement coming out of HyVee corporate. They now want to overprice themself out of the market and wonder why they are hurting. How about they focus on taking care of their customers and their employees. They are wasting their time chasing profit. Do the right thing and the profits will come back.

Eagles Food Center. Home office Milan, illinois. In 1981, had 136 stores throughout Midwest. Did $1.2 billion in sales that year, which would roughly be $4 billion in today's dollars. 2003, out of business. Why? Bad management. Huge egos. No idea on how to handle adversity. Reactive instead of proactive. It can happen. Don't be surprised.
