One would think that an outlet “grand opening” (as Belk corporate calls it) would be a big deal for belk because it’s a new business model. well at the Feb 12th grand opening of the Greeneville outlet, CEO Don Hendricks was conspicuously absent from the ribbon cutting ceremony, in fact all the top brass, except for RVP (Mr. Hoyle) were absent. so what does this say about Belk? Well nobody can be too sure, but it does indicate that these new “outlets” must not be a priority on corporates list if they can’t even be present for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

We gave him the benefit of the doubt for the Alabama visit, not showing for the first outlet opening really speaks volumes.

So does Don primarily live on Martha’s Vineyard? Or does he migrate south for winter?
News headline rich in diversity and affluent CEO wants to celebrate grand opening of an outlet store like I said before belks shady as blank when it comes to operations/business behavior
Don does not want to put himself in a position where he can be asked hard questions or where the media can possibly locate him, it’s almost as if he hides from people, that’s my take on it.
Why would showing his face make any difference?
Wasting shareholder money on the jet and fuel?
Do you think he knows who the employees are?

Last month Don canceled his much anticipated presence during store visits here in Central Alabama. He was even scheduled to host a customer meet and greet (sort of a customer and CEO open forum) to establish a personal connection and gather local Alabamians opinions of Belk. In Don’s conspicuous absence, the RVP stepped in and hosted the forum.
