Thread regarding Change Healthcare layoffs

More Layoffs

Optum/United Health Care are doing their usual slash and burn after an acquisition. They want the name and technology. I could give two sh--s about my job but they laid off some 30+ year folks that have a ton of knowledge and contacts. More to come next month and I predict 70-80% of the Change staff will be fired even though the new Optum CEO was the CEO of Change. For Neil it’s obviously all about the money.

Yes. Waiting on for my transitional letter as well.. they keep saying nothing will change...yea right.. I worked for Optum before..and I never wanted to work for them again...yet here I am .I am retirement age and I'm still working cause I have too..I loved working for Change, great managers, great team..but now I'm facing looking for work once again. I love their Town Hall meetings that we are seeing now from Optum...a bunch of high level executives patting themselves on the back...it's sickening..no mention of the reality of the merger for the average employee.

Neil only cares about his bonus - employees are just numbers to him, not people

What about doing the right thing, the right way, everyday? Just a bunch of Hot Air!
Apparently, they just don't practice what they preach, do they?!?!!!

I am waiting for my "transition email" on March 9 and have no idea if I will be dropped. On the bright side for many people, the skills and experience gained through work at CHC will go a long way toward advancing careers and salaries at other organizations. I personally have upped the minimum salary I would consider by quite a bit. But the idea of leaving my team (the best people and culture I have ever worked with) breaks my heart. I understand that people in the IT sector may have a less hopeful outlook due to the accelerating layoffs in big tech. :( A brighter future could be waiting outside the big name corporations, though: https://www.techtarget.com/searchsoftwarequality/news/365529876/Big-tech-layoffs-may-ease-software-engineer-shortage

As we are looking for an improved career future, take a look at culture ratings for some of Change Healthcare's competitors: https://www.comparably.com/companies/change-healthcare/competitors

It pi---s me off that a few are getting incredibly rich off this $13 billion deal while those of us who do the work that brings in the $$$$$ are deceived. People say "that's just business" but to see the incredible talent and knowledge our teams possess being thrown away makes me feel ill. I am shocked by the number of top leaders and talented people who have walked away since the merger was announced. We are understaffed and struggling mightily to "keep the customer satisfied" by getting the work done right and on time, sacrificing our time with our families and our health to make this work - no matter what - until we reach the pot of gold at the end of the acquisition rainbow when all will be made right again. If I hear one more VP talk about "pulling the levers" (us) or extolling the incredible career opportunities and the great work we will do as part of Optum, I might throw my PC out into the street.

It’s a numbers game, highest paid get laid off first, within the team or org. These are usually high performers with the longest tenure. Optum, UHG, CHC are all letting the knowledge walk out the door. The knowledge will never be replaced, executives will never understand because if they ever had detailed knowledge they lost it long ago. Good luck to anyone left after the massacre.

Layoffs are unfortunately expected as part of any merger. No one is safe unless they own the key and nuclear detonation code :(

To the person that mentioned low performing people: you have a naive look on the company. In my few years here, they have laid off the people who did most of the work or had most of the knowledge. People get laid off for plenty of reasons, but lack of performance is not one of them, and trust me…I have been through these tyoe of layoff waves plenty. It is all about who you know and who likes you. We have lost plenty of talented people who deserve our respect

Meanwhile we were all lied to and told to maintain "business as usual." Yeah, so we could ride the conveyer belt into the career shredder.

What poisonous poor performing people? Change had one poor performing year and the Optum merger was a key driver in that.

How about having some sympathy for the people that lost their jobs instead of simping for corporate greed?

"For Neil it's all about the money"... What should it be all about? Keeping poisonous poor performing people that have earned Change Healthcare the reputation is has?

Other commenters mentioned a third wave of layoffs coming on March 9th and so far their other predictions have come true. If you made it through this passover then I wouldn't relax just yet. Reconsider any large purchases or major life changes until things settle out with the new company later in spring. Maybe rest easy once you make it past the new open enrollment period.

Yeah, it’s a bad look to feather your own bed while the organization you ran is decimated.
