Do you like working at State Farm? Why or why not?

I am thinking of applying to customer service and dont work for state farm. Would you recommend? Also, if you do like your job which department do you think is nice

Never been a better time to work for SF. I heard there is an exploratory committee being formed to consider putting together a panel of experts to discuss the possibility of forming a new department to review potentially reinstating the select a gift program.

I wish this place had better discussions. This is a really interesting conversation to have, since its beyond clear that many, if not most, are not really all that happy working for State Farm, specifically claims/underwriting/sales/support.

I think a lot of it has to do with de-skilling roles, destroying work community and culture, and an over focus on public metrics that drive cutting corners to appear better in a competitive environment that shouldn't be a competition.

What does this company do when the people willing to work the roles have already been burned out and left and we still want to keep growing but cant find people to honor our promise to the customer?

Its a terrifying prospect as I witness daily the amount of people who actually care about the job dropping, and those who can really get the work done leaving. We are running out of rockstars to carry the weight of an extra 3-5 employees who dont care and dont try...on top of all the layers upon layers of needless bureaucracy whos overly generous salaries come off the backs of the under paid and over worked producers.

Like many have said, eventually you realize you can make about the same as here but with like 10 times less work, 100 times less stress, and nearly no managerial games played....especially now since there are zero long term employment rewards like the pension that was a fantastic way to keep decent workers long term.

New employees placed much emphasis on an enhanced 401 k that is portable rather than a traditional pension. Most people today do not envision or even contemplate staying with one company for 20, 30,or,40 years.

Work for a company almost 30 years, and in your early 50s they cut you. Sure everyone would love the “opportunity” to be back in the job hunt at 53. Good times

Only thing to me as a past employee is why they got rid of the pension plan. I do not think it was a good idea as it was a definite benefit to join the company and stay for longevity but after reading about the continued failure of operational environment and no work-life balance why would want to stay especially due to stress levels. I worked in claims and left claims due to the new claims model plus no work life balance due to the mandatory overtime required plus health problems especially my excessive blood pressure increase. They need to go back to the way things were and if they did it would not be a bad company to work for. Just my 2 cents from a 26 year employee.

I'm gonna say no. You can find a similar entry pay level job with a whole lot of stress and micromanaged. It is not worth it, don't undersell yourself.

Like the FBI, once they went from a decentralized model to centralized, the system is a failure in terms of employees and the customer. The decisions line the pockets of the upper 20% only. So no I wouldn't recommend the company to anyone unless you know someone that can put you in the upper 20%

Avoid State Farm by all cost. It would be a decision you will soon regret. It is not worth your mental or physical health. This is department specific. The company is toxic.

There was a time when State Farm was the premier P&C company to work for. Best training, highest pay, best claims operation in the business. Not anymore. State Farm is nothing special, we have fallen to the middle of the pack in all areas. So to be fair, it is likely no worse than working for Progressive or Nationwide if call center mentality is your thing,

If you can get in SFPP/SFBilling I feel it is relatively low stress compared to other call centers within SF.

Be careful with any phone job, they will say you can get your foot in the door with them. Most people have to stay years in the position before being able to post out, claims is always this way.

Claims will take years off your life. Pay is low, training is non existent and you don't get a pension anymore. Maybe other jobs are ok, but I implore you to not get a claims job or you will be sorry. Consider yourself warned.

These comments are full of nothing but lying bots. There aren’t any good customer service jobs at SF. You’re either going to be dealing with angry agents who don’t know sh-t about the product they sell or angry customers who don’t know what the he-l their insurance covers. If you want stress and low pay by all means come abroad. Otherwise look some place else.

State Farm is often what you make of it. It's a reasonable job, and the call centers are much like any other insurance company. Some departments are better and some are worse. A lot will depend on your team and manager.

Claims is rough, Underwriting is better, and I don't know if it's true, but Life seems to have good vibes. Pay for all could be better, the benefits are pretty good. It is still possible to move around in the company.

For all the cr-p I give SF, I know of a lot more toxic work environments out there.

Yes - have been with the company 10 years, 3 different departments, and on my 5th role. My salary has increased significantly over time, the benefits are good, and the people I’ve gotten to work with are supportive and genuinely good people. My leadership team consistently expresses appreciation for my contributions.

If you are new to the insurance industry, I think the customer care center is a great place to start because you’ll learn a lot and it’ll help you figure out your longer term interests and career goals.

State Farm is not the only company I’ve worked for and I have a good understanding of the current job market within our various locations - every company and job has its pros and cons and the pros have definitely outweighed the cons in my experience. Your attitude and effort definitely impact what you get out of it.
