Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Is it possibly not all bad?

I fully concede that I might just be naive. Or maybe my unit (one of the numerous AIG Legal departments) is different.

But is it possible that the doom and gloom here is overblown? Regarding bonuses, my unit seems to be okay. Regarding layoffs, we haven’t been seeing any. Regarding business and the company going under, we are seeing an increase in business.

I am just not sure if I am missing something, or maybe we are shielded from the norms? To me AIG is just a job, but it doesn’t seem as if the wheels are falling off yet…am I missing something?

We come here to complain, naturally. I don't know if it's Stockholm syndrome but I have grown used to this mess called AIG, I would find it difficoult now to work in a coherent work environment where procedures and responsabilities are cristal clear

Yes, if you have no self-worth, motivation or ambition to progress, it’s really not that bad. AIG is your home ( at least for the next 6-12 months until youre tossed out like PZ’s buffet e-suite luncheon). Enjoy it while you can.

So, according to Post ID: @OP+1l3tIygb, the new people are d-mb and the old people are washed up....so, we're all doomed! LOL.

The newbies aren't too bright, but most of that is because AIG now fills jobs by quota not qualified candidate. By industry standards you are washed up if you have been with AIG for many years, sorry but everyone knows that.

Old and washed up? Most of the newbies I’m seeing in tech can barely write a coherent sentence, much less run a meeting. And they whine about not being managers. Try doing YOUR current job well before complaining about lack of promotion opportunities. Or go apply at FB, I really don’t care.

You hit it on the head. It is just a job. No future, no growth, not a career, just a pay check. STI will be okay, cost of living increase will be meager and not keep up with inflation. But, if you just want a pay check do the minimum and keep the pay check coming.

If you are one of the thousands of old, washed up employees that make up a great majority of AIG you should try to hang on to your cushy gig. Any young talent should use this place as a stepping stone and get out as quickly as possible.

AIG is clearly winding down. Who knows how long it will take to complete, but jobs will systematically be eliminated during the process. Each person needs to evaluate their situation and act accordingly. Take control of your destiny or bury your head and hope for the best. It is up to you.
